@thenylefty I have similar stats to you and I also visited twice- still haven’t heard back! I’m think that it is either a waitlist or rejection… I understand your frustration! I really liked American and I seriously wanted go there. Well…
We’re in nj and my daughter got waitlisted. I’m glad so many who wanted American badly got accepted. This isn’t my daughter’s top choice so she won’t bother to wait.
Funny, we’re headed to Boston for accepted student day at northeastern. She got in early acceptance. Also got into case western and u pitt. Waiting on GW. My daughter’s stats are more in line with GW so we’re hopeful.
Stats - 3.8 u/w, 3.95 w, 2130 old sat (comparable to 1510 on new), national merit commended scholar, NHS, lots of community service and some ec.
Were those who got wait listed able to create an account on the new student portal?
@Pattijh2 no
waitlisted
32 act, 3.8 uw and 4.5 weighted
I’m shocked at the stats of these people who were waitlisted. I can’t help but feel that is what is gonna happen to me. I even showed a ton of interest and AU was my #1 since sophomore year. I strongly think its yield protection.
@Riley9119 we visited and my daughter went to a recruiter visit at her school but that’s the extent of her interest. DC is her top location for college so American was an option if GW doesn’t happen.
It sounds like you’ve really expressed your desire to go to American and that matters a lot.
Best of luck to you.
Got waitlisted, but not sweating it because I decided to apply randomly a few days before the RD deadline. Was accepted to UMD, one of my top choices.
It almost feels like no one got straight up rejected?
if I was just able to make my portal yesterday, can I assume my letter was sent out yesterday? Nothing in the mail again today. Also can I assume I’m accepted and not waitlisted or rejected if I made a portal login and see my admittance letter?
I’m wondering the same thing. What did it say when you created a new account?
I was able to create a auportal account with my au ID, but can’t see any letter on there. Was also able to register for newly admitted students seminar next month through my prospective student portal yet have not received an email or a letter in the mail saying I got in. I’m am very confused
So, you didn’t see anything in the portal indicating you were accepted?
Waitlisted with pretty high stats. I’m guessing it’s like what others have said, that AU is trying to boost their rates… It’s a shame, I really liked AU.
GPA: 4.5, SAT 2330, SAT Math 760 World Hist 780 US Hist. 800
It does seem fairly arbitrary. My son has a 3.8 unweighted, 4.7 weighted, 32 ACT and 1520 new SAT. He was accepted…I wonder if it matters what major you entered on the common app.
He did show interest with a visit, but it seems like many similar students who also showed interest were wait-listed.
@Pattijh2 no, i was just able to login and view the site as if I was a student
at the top of my letter on the portal, it says Congratulations, X, on your acceptance to American University! . So I can assume I’m in and not waitlisted?.
Can you explain to me how waitlisting students with good stats will give AU better rankings? Thanks
not exactly better stats but better yield rates so more people attend there. @worriedmum12 It’s so they don’t have to accept as many so people are compelled to attend
D waitlisted with 4.0 UW, 4.6 W & 34 ACT. Visit, Interview & Visited presentation @ her HS. Tons of EC, Awards & CS.
Got letter today in mail. So … I guess they did save the rejections/waitlists til last
