@gk1733 Does it say Spring 2018 or Fall 2017?
@rtulip do you mind sharing if she was able to make an account on the portal?
@adlor21 mine says spring 2018. I’m hoping it’s a mistake and I’m offered fall admission, but I’m not entirely sure
No, she was unable to make an account.
To Be Fair: She already got some great choices & still waiting on 2 others
Just surprising!
My son decided to check the portal and it says spring 2018
@Luke273 So does that mean they try to guess
And only invite people the really think will say yes? Sorry all new to me.
Still no mail from the Bay Area
Got my acceptance in the mail today! Pretty surprised because I have a 3.2 UW and 28 ACT but they mentioned my essay in detail in the acceptance letter (they also might do that for everyone). Pleasantly surprised but not rich enough to pay full tuition!
@dorsia . same thing with my D, they mentioned her essay in detail. But alas, no merit, or FA. We have to think long and hard about spending the money. Will also see what GW has to say. American is a top choice of hers .
I have to say that as a mom of a kid who is not 4.0 and ACT over 32 it is nice to see schools look at her holistically. Her essays and EC’s are very good. there are so many high stat kids out there. its very scary how many kids, at least those on these boards have ACT’s of 34 or higher, SAT’s in the 1500’s, GPAs over 4.0 and many APs. The question is how to distinguish them.
Also I think with the high stats kids, they figure that this is not their top choice and a backup to other Ivy or near Ivy, or even GW or Georgetown. They probably also assume that any high stat kid that wants this as their top choice would have gone ED? So the kids where American is match or reach, will really want to attend (thus meet yield).

So my D finally got her package from AU and surprise surprise Spring 2018.
I had a few questions for you all (above names and anyone else admitted for Spring 2018 only please) because you all have received Spring admit packages. I am trying not to believe what I think may be true in regards to these Spring 2018 admits. So here goes. Please do not provide specifics
- Everyone who was admitted fro Fall 2017 had their essays referenced in their acceptance. Was this done for any of the Spring 2018 admits? It was not for my D
- Would you/your child have qualified for need-based FA? - My D would not
- Based on you FAFSA would your EFC look as though you could afford AU tuition without any awards? - It would appear that way but it is not so
- What school within AU did you/your child apply to? - Kogod
From reading posts in previous years regarding this Mentorship Program and the fact that it is so prestigious but is non degree so one cannot receive a FA package is a red flag for me. My daughter feels slighted because she showed interest, we visited the school, attended webinars. She has friends with lower stats who did not even think about AU until she mentioned it to them and they got in under ED.
The Spring letter mentions spacing being an issue, but they can live on campus and take 5 classes (15 credits) - where is the space issue again? D feels that they could have all been accepted to Fall 2017 and the selected few could still be told that because of spacing they would have to commence their AU journey with the Fall Mentorship Program that does not qualify for FA and if this is not feasible then the student can defer enrollment until Spring 2018.
I will be attending the webinar but it is highly unlikely that my D will attend this program she really wanted to go to AU, it was her top with the exception of the dorms.
Got my acceptance in the mail today (NY) for Spring 2018… not much aid… high chance I’m not going… waiting on two more colleges anyways
Are the waitlist letters in smaller envelopes?
I don’t know my AU ID… Guess I just have to wait for the mail?
Are waitlist letters in smaller envelopes?
@xxxxx12 yup, they’re in regular sized envelopes
Hello,
Today I received an email congratulating me on my acceptance, as well inviting me for an overnight campus visit. I have not received a physical confirmation of my acceptance, in letter form, however is the email a reliable source for assuming my acceptance?
Sorry to ask this question for what I am sure is the millionth time, but we live in California, and nothing has arrived in the mail thus far. Our son hasn’t received any emails from American at all, except for a response from his admissions rep regarding his letter of interest. He recieved a postcard saying that his application was received after he submitted in January. I happened to find his AU ID # on a letter sent to my husband and me last fall so that he was able to make an account on the myAU portal.
Can anyone confirm or refute that if my son was able to do all of the things on the list below, that he will likely hear good news when his letter finally makes its way to CA? We know there are no absolutes in this back door method, but was anyone able to do these things and get denied or waitlisted? Many thanks in advance from a confused and stressed out mom.
a) open an account on the myAU portal
b) locate the enrollment agreement in the new students under the Life @ AU tab and find the 1st letter below
d) open the Finances tab where he discovered his financial aid letter (2nd letter below)
e) was able to open an AU Gmail account and receive the daily newsletter today
