So those that were admitted, have you all received financial aid information within your letters or portal?
Also I was admitted for the spring of 2018, but no financial aid information; is this the case for all spring 2018 admittees?
Waitlisted.
Applied as a Poly Sci major (secondary as Econ) and test optional.
3.9 unweighted/ 4.55 weighted GPA. Co-President of NHS, Secretary of Model UN, Co-President of Politicians of Tomorrow, President of GSA, worked on the Sander’s campaign (which I mentioned in my app), government oriented internship, etc.
Sort of frustrated as D.C is where I want to be, but I am hoping GW wants something that American doesn’t.
I wasn’t able to access the portal and I didn’t get an email.
Congrats to everyone that got in!
D Wait listed 4.0 UW GPA 4.7 Weighted, 1540SAT. Very dissapointed.
Waitlisted. 4.4 GPA, 1360 SAT, 9 AP’s, Editor in chief of the yearbook, president of mock trial, secretary of NHS, volunteer at local hospital, visited and demonstrated interest. Extremely disappointed because AU was basically my top choice at this point.
@lulu7575 You have great stats and ECs… they probably assumed that they were your safety (which I think is not a very good approach because many are actually interested)
Really seems that they are playing a horrible game… waitlisting so many overqualified applicants to protect their yield…
Fall Mentorship with Spring Admission - no merit aid available for all years attending American.
The yield protection method seems crazy this year…
I think it’s been the last couple years.
I applied to American because I genuinely like the school, but by the looks of it based on stats I will be waitlisted congrats to everyone who got in though!!
How is everyone who’s waitlisted finding out? By mail or does your portal tell you? All my portal says is when decisions will be mailed out…
@Laurene99 I got a letter in the mail
Does anyone know roughly how many students they waitlist and how many they end up accepting?
Crazy! I can almost guarantee you that the “overqualified” apps were waitlisted for yield protection. I got in with a piss poor 3.0 unweighted GPA (3.9 weighted) and a 32 ACT score. However, I did get two interviews and showed interest…got no money so probably won’t attend with a 60k price tag.
@martian88 My D got the mentorship with spring admit. The financial aid letter was in the folder. She got nothing except for $5,500 federal loans. It sounds like none of the spring admits got any money.
@vstressedout I wrote about how I changed my view on Harry Potter for my supplement.
Something I dread all week happened… I see lots of people who had American as their safeties got waitlisted this year and I just found out I was one of them. 1480 SAT, and rank 2 in my class. I’m so disappointed because I actually showed interest in American by going to attend American info session when the rep came to my school, applied for honors, and even went down to American for overnight prospective student day for Honors program. I could see myself happy there. I don’t want to imagine that I got waitlisted just because of yield protection, some sort of admission policy that I heard for the first time in this thread.
Ok thanks. I haven’t gotten anything yet, that’s why I was wondering
Fall Mentorship does not count as matriculating; therefore Spring Admissions get $0 merit aid for their whole time at American.
Wow. Yeah. No financial aid.
