Like real life action heroes, these awesome young men stop a terrorist gunman before potential massacre. Proud of their courage and quickness.
True heroes! One of them apparently also saved the life of the person whose throat was slit… while the other held the gunman twisted into a pretzel. Amazing. The gunman now sez he was only trying to rob the pax. Sure…
So glad they were able to stop the nutcase and save lives. Awful that these attacks appear to be becoming more frequent, with serious risk of catastrophe.
Story gets better as more details emerge:

Spencer Stone, USAF, not only tackled the guy, but provided life-saving medical assistance to a passenger bleeding from a knife wound, while he himself was also bleeding from slash wounds. Amazing guy.
I think the bravery displayed in flight 93 on 9/11 has impacted a lot of people. They are not going to take it laying down if they possibly can do otherwise. I admire their bravery. I know I probably wouldn’t have stepped up like that.
I’m so glad to read this.
Maybe I’ve seen too many Bourne movies but does anyone else think there could be more to this story?
In any event, great job!
I hope so. It will be a hit.
Proud of those young men
The account gets even more interesting
French shame?
Maybe that is how the French crews are trained . . . ? Somebody has to survive to drive the train (?).
Jus’ saying . . . I detest French shaming.
ETA: What do we think an American crew would do?
On United93 the female flight attendants didnt lock themselves in the lav. They grabbed cafes of boiling water to use as a weapon and charged with the big male passengers using the beverage cart as a battering ram to break down the cockpit door.
That’s what an American crew would do.
I know it’s very serious stuff, but I loved reading the first person account about beating the [alleged] perp with his own rifle until he was unconscious.
[add] in my mind’s eye I see the college senior yelling, in between each hit, THIS! IS! NOT! ACCEPTABLE! BEHAVIOR! DO! I! MAKE! MYSELF! CLEAR!
An awful lot of stuff lined up to make that go well.
Apparently the first thing was the French passenger opening the lavatory door and interrupting the preparation stage, causing him to erupt into the aisles a little before he was ready. Then the AK jammed.
Relieved, and grateful, I’m also appreciative.
Exactly, it’s a post-911 world where crazies use mass transit as weaponry, which is why the crews are probably trained to keep an active shooter out of their area.
It’s not fair to judge that French crew, especially before all the facts come out.

Summary:
Suspect is first encountered by a French passenger, who unsuccessfully tries to stop him until the suspect fires the AK-47, hitting and injuring another passenger.
A Briton and three Americans (two military servicemembers and one college student traveling together) notice the suspect. The three Americans bring down and disarm the suspect. One of the Americans and the Briton tie up the suspect.
Suspect is Moroccan and known to Spanish authorities.
I’m going to do the predictable thing now and point out that these brave fellas were good guys without guns stopping a bad guy with a gun. >:)
I’m so very, very glad that this ended as well as it did. Phew! There’s something to say for quick reflexes and good training.
