America's Got Talent, American Idol, XFactor, etc.

It will be interesting to see what song choice(s) Jessica makes from here on out. Jimmy said she had been singing songs that were too old for her up til now and acknowledged that even he overlooked this. Perhaps the songs were too old… but she has a SULTRY voice which doesn’t really match her age, so there’s a disconnect there no matter what. Holding back on the sultry tone, for a more youthful song choice, may also hurt her. We’ll have to see what she comes up with.

If Elise is smart, she will get behind her piano next week and stay there for as long as she remains in the competition.

Colton gone…wow, I know he had a bad week, but I was surprised to see him go instead of Hollie. I think Hollie was also very surprised…poor thing was crying buckets. I think she had resigned herself to being the one who would be leaving and then to NOT be leaving…she was overcome. Phillip looked pretty broken up about it also.

I hope that Jessica’s song choice next week does her good. But what song would you have her sing? I suppose that I can’t think of one off the top of my head, but when I hear her sing it, I’ll say–“Yes, that’s the right song.”

At this point–it looks to be Joshua, Phillip and Skylar as the final three. Those three seem to be the singers who “know who and what they are.”

Seriously, how much longer can Hollie (and Elise) last?!! And not sure that Jessica can discover the secret sauce in the next week…

But, this has been a week of surprises…so who knows…If Elise can come up with another Led Zeppelin-like performance next week, that could be a game changer for her.

Well the show certainly lost a lot of its spunk for me with Colton leaving. :(

Hello judges! (and Jimmy L) Jessica is not the only “baby” on that crew - Hollie is too a teen - pretty close to the same age as Jessica, right? How about encouraging HER to put a younger spin on her songs??! Yes, she did with Adele, but the showering of attention to Jessica and Joshua has me fuming!!!

Will really, really miss seeing Colton and what he has to offer each week. I believe that he of all the contestants took the most risks and was the most creative.

Hollie definitely has trouble getting us to believe it when she sings…but she’s still here! Colton admitted that he really blew it by singing Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance this week. But he seemed pretty sanguine about the whole thing–sounds like he’s going to be recording Christian music, according to the article I read.

ellemenope–I figured we would see an article today or tomorrow about Colton getting a recording contract. It makes no sense for him to be voted off already. Isn’t Skylar 17 too? I probably won’t watch any more now. No reason too. None of them are really “star” quality any more.

If his speculation is true, what a shame that his fanbase wouldn’t vote for him simply because of the song choice. What is wrong with enjoying all kinds of music.

I don’t think it was just Colton’s song choice, but also his outfit and his performance. Like Jimmy said, he blew it across the board, which either means he wanted off the show or he really doesn’t know who he really is and the disconnect showed in his performance. I mean, that tuxedo-style jacket AND shiny skinny red pants and the colton-hawk? And then on top of that the rock-voice-that-couldn’t? He voice is pleasant and interesting when he does the gentle emo tunes behind the piano, and those are amplified when he looks longingly into the camera. When he tries to step out and do rock he just doesn’t match completely so it stirs up one’s view of him.

I still like Elise, and I’m sorry for her that she is goofy/awkward when she adlibs a comment. I think that hurts her the most, frankly. I would love to see her in a club while enjoying a delicious glass of wine in Boston or NY w/ my favorite people. I hope she says *&$@! it to the competition and just does her own thing. She’s trying so hard to be American Idol material that she’s losing who she is deep down.

Joshua and Phillip now benefit with Colton gone … likely most of Colton’s votes could transfer to first Phillip and then Joshua.

The young girl competition is being led by Skylar. Once Hollie or Jessica get voted off, then Skylar will be in trouble because the young-teen-with-big-voice vote will go to whichever one didn’t get voted off.

I’ll check back next week to see how wrong my Idol predictions are. Can’t you tell I’m a wanna-be AI judge?

I think that you’d make a good AI handicapper, Snowflake.

I’m another one surprised to see Colton go… Does the voting really reflect one night’s performance instead of the sum over the weeks? Guess so, because Hollie was great this week after offering nothing in past weeks. Colton did really blow it, but I thought he’d stay around.

You know who I’m really appreciating? Jimmy Iovine… he really gives straight (and informed) analysis without any of the Simon Cowell snide effect.

Anyway, I’m no handicapper; I’ll let you all do that . I’m loving Philip now. He sings so happy.

I want to see Elise and Hollie go. And I don’t personally want another country winner.

So it’s Philip and Joshua in my top 2.

I still like Elise, but I like that kind of gravelly voice.

I wish they would shorten the time of the show with fewer contestants. I’m done with 2 hour evenings!

I also think 2 hours is a bit much at this point.

I thought it was interesting to hear them talk about each other, but I’m not sure if it did Phillip any favors. Apparently he’s a drama queen who uses his health to get extra rest. I wonder how well they all REALLY get along. I’m sure they get tired of spending so much time together. I know I would.

I am SO over these judges I don’t even WANT to discuss the singing!!! I miss Simon!

I DO want to talk about what Jennifer was wearing. Honey, you can’t DO THAT!!

Her outfit looked like glittery, slouchy sloppy pj’s!!! (and I DON’T want to see her belly!)

I actually read this week that in truth Phillip has been suffering at times badly from the kidney stones problem(s). According to reports, it’s no drama, but severe pain. His mother was interviewed and asked for prayers for him that he might be able to get past the issues so he can continue to perform.

^Kidney stones are no joking matter, so please excuse me for this one joke: his facial expressions are due to his kidney stone problem…

If that’s the case, abasket, then AI probably shouldn’t have aired that little bit about him. It’s one thing to have a messy room but quite different to be portrayed as a slacker. I like Phillip, though, and am sorry he is not well. I’ve had a kidney stone before and it is no fun!

As someone who has had kidney stones close to 20 times, it’s unfortunate if the show was portraying this boy in a negative light due to his health issue. The pain is indescribable, worse than labor.

It was “painful” for me to listen to Jessica tonight. I think she may be in trouble after her performance.

^Referring to Jessica’s round 1 performance^

Joshua’s round 2 performance was top for me.

And, yes, that Jennifer “ensemble”? Puh-leeze. Of course, it’s a testament to her beauty that the outfit can’t take away from that. But talk about unflattering. Jeez.

Side note: Hollie’s second song was really strong (for her), but I don’t think she’s really a contender.

I think the judges were right in that everybody had one great performance tonight…Joshua and Skylar had two. I can’t believe the judges gave Elise a hard time about the popularity of the Jimi Hendrix song she sang and didn’t give Phillip a hard time about the Dave Matthews song.

I think everybody except Joshua and Skylar are on the bubble…it’ll be an interesting elimination tomorrow night!
