@Krlilies- I can watch the shows where they’re “reality” but only one show at a time rather than running contestants. I do like Chopped and Pawn Stars.

Maybe the singing competition genre of reality TV is finally winding down. Remember when the quiz shows (Weakest Link, etc.) were HUGE?

Anybody up for Duets?

^Start the thread, ellemenope! Oh, and thanks for not asking if anyone remembers “What’s my line” and “I’ve got a secret”!

I have a secret: I used to watch “What’s My Line?”

^^ Insert smile

I also have watched “What’s my line” … courtesy of late nights at GSN. Dorothy Kilgallen and Bennett Cerf were fantastic. Fwiw, I always imagined CC’s FountainSiren looking just like Dorothy (she doesn’t IRL) Or could it be because the powers-to-be might really wanted to silence the inquisitive voices.

And I really like Chopped, even if the show has that sour-faced and annoying judge usually sitting in the middle. Winners such as Madison Cowan and Lance Nitahara are truly amazing chefs and … individuals. Did anyone see Lance giving parts of his check to send another chef to France?

I’ve never gotten into the cooking reality competition shows or the fashion model competitions yet. So much reality TV…so little time!

Or maybe so much CC…so little time!:)

It is true that TV is just one big competition show these days! Except for Survivor, I do admit to liking them all. (Won’t watch America’s Got Talent because of Howard Stern though.)

Glad for PP to win, although the liklihood of him fading into obscurity is pretty high! (At home we always joke that the winner of all these competition shows seems to do less well than the runner ups!)

Last night I realized how quickly people fade from our minds when they aren’t front and center. I couldn’t even remember the names of all the AI contestants that were in the top ten!

On to SYTYCD!

ellenemope, I don’t watch the cooking reality shows EXCEPT the next food network star–love that one! SYTYCD was great–I like how they tend to focus on the positive, PLUS I can’t believe these people can do something so strong and beautiful with their bodies!

LA Times article (one of many) spotlighting the “cracks” in American Idol…not that I ever really forgot what American Idol is–a money-making operation.

“It’s now an annual treadmill: Fall teasers, tryouts, show, finale, tour, release, repeat. One year it’s Cook riding it, another year it’s Allen, each a replaceable part of a piece of commercial machinery created to make engaging plot lines and harness the artistry and enthusiasm for fame in service of commerce.”

I can’t believe that people have the guts to get up there and lay it all out for the world to see. I’m thinking specifically about the “Ocean” guy from last night. I did some channel flipping from Duets–I liked the duets themselves, but the way the scoring is done is just STUPID–and caught the Ocean Guy. I couldn’t tell if Nigel was being sarcastic when he told the audience to do the Ocean or whether he was being complimentary…

This is just a small insight into how POOR the US versions look when compared the foreign editions.

This is only from the UK.

Saw an article in USA Today about the number of song downloads that AI winners and runners up have had.

Looks like PP’s winning song is doing quite well. Also looks like Jessica’s is not doing well at all, and her sing is getting zero airplay on the radio.

Had a feeling that, regardless of the absolute beauty of Jessica’s voice, there is no market for her style right now.

Yep PPs single has outsold all other Idols coronation songs. Good for him.

With the announcement of Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj as judges my Idol days are officially over. I’ve been a fan of Keith Urban’s for years, although who knows how well that will translate to the judges table. Nicki Minaj…um, no. Going back to four judges is a terrible idea anyway.

I’ll give it a try…

Nicki seems a little odd to me, but the one I LEAST look forward to is Mariah…I just don’t go for the divas!!! I’ll watch one audition show or two, have my fill, then start watching again when they get to Hollywood week. I just can’t imagine not watching American Idol!

Tonight the XFactor had auditions in Kansas City, (South) S.F., and Austin. The one I liked the best was the country singer from Kansas City who they featured last during the KC segment-- Tate Stevens.

Tate Stevens was great. Just watched it again on youtube. He’ll go a long way in the competition. I hope Panda is OK. Prob. wasn’t a good idea to audition after just being released from the hospital w/ pneumonia but she was pretty fantastic.

The one who impressed me the most so far from XFactor is Carly Rose Sonenclar. Tate and Panda were awesome too and also the guy with tattoos all over his head.
