We caught part of it. On the recap I saw that Fifth Harmony did one song with the same type of ridiculous outfits, inc the massive bow, as last week, while animated flying unicorns flew in the background. Seriously?!? I don’t care what you’re singing or how good you are that’s just all kinds of wrong. It will be interesting to see if there are any break outs from the group that get any traction.
Carly Rose just did it for me with her last song, one of my favorites. She didn’t oversing but still showed off her great range. It was a big production but it didn’t seem to overtake her as the focus.
I’m kind of bored with Tate. No doubt he’s talented and will find a career, win or loose. Getting good writers will be key for him.
It will be interesting to see who fills LA Reid’s chair next year, if Demi and Brittany will be back, and what they’ll do with the hosting debacle.

Ultimately, singing competitions are about just that: singing. I don’t believe I’m alone in thinking that Carly Rose Sonenclar has the most vocal talent by a long shot. I really hope she wins the competition.

^I think it’s a balance between singing and popularity of the singer AND the mentor. L.A. Reid puts Tate at a disadvantage with the voters because he just isn’t very likeable.

My money is still on Tate in a very close vote, just like it has been all season long.

I think Tate could very easily win tonight. He’s very talented and very likable, with little support from LA early on followed by poor song choices. Tate and Carly Rose are apples and oranges. They are going to appeal to different people and it’s simply a matter of who voted them through. Both will have careers. If Carly Rose doesn’t win tonight it will be interesting to see which direction she chooses to go not being tied to a contract. She has a background in Broadway musical theater, however I’m sure she’ll be approached with recording contracts. At 13yo her parents have to consider her education as well.

I’m happy for him, although I found it annoying that he constantly said that he deserved to win because he needed it more than the other contestants.

I think Carly deserved to win. Tate is a good country singer but nothing special. Carly does have something special.

I am happy as well. I usually don’t like country, but Tate was very good. I wish the prize was split in someway for Carly as well. They both were great last night.

The thing I appreciate about LA Reid is that he helps his top contestants after the event. Last year I heard his top three artists on the radio which was great. Not sure how much he can help Tate, but it would be great if he worked with Carly.

I agree with NYmon. Carly does have something special, but she certainly has name recognition now and she will continue to grow and develop. I will be watching her.

Congrats to Tate; nice guy.

I’m thinking that Carly may be better off controlling her own career, with her parents, rather than being under contract to Simon Cowell, with a huge immediate time commitment. For Tate, on the other hand, his best option is to go right into a recording contract rather than back to paving roads.

So maybe things worked out for the best. I think it’s a poke in the eye to the X Factor producers, with their obvious preference for young or very young and beautiful competitors, that one of the oldest contestants, not a candidate for a modelling gig, won the big prize.

Moving this up to the front, because the first episode of AI is on tonight. It’s true, I never tire of it…if I can sit through J Lo and Steven Tyler’s self promotion, and the constant…“Beautiful, just beautiful,” I can sit through anything!

I just hope it’s not too much of a freak show with the judges this time. Though with Minaj onboard, that’s a futile hope.

I watched it tonight. Too much talking/fake bickering and too little music. I’m not sure if I can watch another season of blah, blah, blah and very little actual music.

Our local cable system is feuding with Fox so we’ve been "Fox-less for over a month with no end in sight. The cable company pulled all Fox stations and programming. First time since season 2 that I haven’t been able to watch the first episode! I don’t mind missing the auditions but would really like to be able to watch come Hollywood week. But I’m not holding my breath!!!

Well, abasket, from the sound of it, maybe you’re not missing anything much. Reading nysmiles post makes me think I’ll just DVR it, so I can fast forward through the blah, blah, blah stuff. That is annoying.

Just pathetic it is.

16 minutes into it and I’m already bored with this fake bickering. Yuck.

Was it bad Xiggi? I couldn’t bring myself to watch, which is saying a lot because I’d leave DH in a heartbeat if Keith Urban showed up on my doorstep.

Keith is going to end up on someone’s doorstep, blueiguana, and it might as well be yours. I haven’t seen your doorstep, but I’m betting it beats sitting between Mariah and Nikki for a whole season.

Very funny, jshain. Agreed!

We have been loyal AI watchers but this may be the end of the line. It was so boring. I tried, I really tried. DVRed it and even fast forwarding through it, it was still terrible.

Abasket, I would not be happy. No AI, ok but no football playoffs, I would be fuming.

Trust me, we and the city are not happy! As Packer fans, we managed to find a website we could stream the game from and then we hooked the computer up to the tv to watch it - that worked wonderfully!

If anyone knows of a website where you can stream American Idol live, please let me know - I did a quick search yesterday but didn’t unearth anything. Totally weird to me that the cable company can take away a major network. Especially when they are the main cable in town besides Direct TV - which we will not get!

That stupid English accent that the ladies are faking is starting to annoy me. Randy isn’t annoying me yet, nor is Keith Urban. Hopefully I live near blueiguana, (so if he comes looking for you, I’ll have to pretend you’re not home, but he can visit with us for awhile)…I haven’t heard many contestants that are really impressive yet, either.
