America's Got Talent, American Idol, XFactor, etc.

Carly Rose Sonenclar, last year’s X-Factor runner-up will guest star in Law & Order:SVU tonight.

I was a big fan of Carly Rose last year. good for her.

On this year’s XFactor, I have a few favorites. I do like a few of the young ones because you can see that they have enormous potential (15 year old boy that has a little of Michael Jackson’s voice and the 16 year old girl that sounds sometimes like Amy Winehouse). I like the older woman that sings sometimes like Whitney Houston, and surprisingly enough, I love the couple in love, especially after seeing Sierra kick up her heels as an Irish dancer.

Simon lost a point when he insisted his girl group was the best of the night. They were off, and weren’t doing anything original anyway.

Snowflake, I shamelessly admit to knowing who everyone is that you are referring to, even though you didn’t name names:

Josh Levi
Khaya Cohen
Lillie McCloud
Alex and Sierra

I loved the theme “songs from the 80’s” but I hated pretty much all of the performances, with the possible exception of, as Snowflake would likely call them if she was referring them: “that country western male trio”. Lillie McCloud, the 53 (?) year old with the big voice should have knocked it out of the park, given the theme, but didn’t.

I’m not sure I can get through a whole season of this mediocrity. Some of the young male and female singers are much better dancers than singers. I might turn down the volume and just watch them dance?

Who went home tonight? I was an hour late tuning in and missed it.

Never mind. I googled it, and am not really surprised at who went home. So far, I don’t have a favorite, although I do like Khaya best of the girls. There just seems to be too much going on with the entire production for me. Less is more.

And one thing that bothers me is that there will be a slew of dancers up there, and the singer never interacts with them or acts like they are even there. It would seem so much more natural if they at least looked at them when they pass within inches of one another.

Who was eliminated on XFactor? I dozed off before I saw the answer.

I’ve never understood the fascination with watching these televised karaoke contests…

Then why even look at this thread? Just to make a condescending comment and reassure yourself that you have more elevated taste? A lot of people find these shows to be very entertaining–period. I don’t get the fascination with the “Real Housewives” franchise, which I think makes women look terrible, but I accept that they are entertaining to many and I don’t go posting about my distaste on a fan site. I’ll give your post more attention than it deserves by pointing out that the contestants on these shows who have been the most impressive and had the most success in the music business are the ones who have brought original approaches to their performances. I could give you a bunch of links…but why bother.

Snowflake, Khaya got voted off first and Tim lost to Carlito in a sing-off 3-0. Simon’s vote wasn’t needed.

MommaJ, I once found many of these shows entertaining, and I still enjoy many of the non-singing ones (e.g., SYTYCD, Top Chef, Project Runway).

The singing ones seem as though they’re appealing to a much younger demographic than my cohort; I can’t think of another reason that Khaya got sent packing (she was worth listening to), or that every big note, in tune or not, gets screams from the audience. I obviously still watch, but I find myself zipping through (via DVR) more and more of the performances and the lion’s share of the judges’ comments. By contrast, I frequently re-watch dances on SYTYCD.

Just my $0.02

Thanks for the update … Bummed about Khaya as she was real and had lots of potential. Tim doesn’t have the pop X Factor but he has a great voice.

I agree that these shows seem a bit lame sometimes, but I have a stressful full time job in the tech industry and it is a good escape for me, plus a few of the contestants really do have the talent to make it big, so I look discovering them every season or so.

I really enjoyed XFactor last night, particularly Alex and Sierra! Of all the talent remaining on both The Voice and XFactor, I like them the best.

I like Alex and Sierra, too. Ellona is growing on me, and I find Carlito very likeable. They all did well last night from the ones I saw. I missed the first two performances.

Yes, Sierra’s voice is getting more confident every week … She may soon outshine Alex, but I love them together.

I love Alex and Sierra! However, right before they go on stage I hold my breath because I’m afraid Sierra will be off-key at some point while singing. I’m glad she stopped sticking out her tongue in embarrassment. I’m rooting only for them.

Wow.

Alex and Sierra topped the charts. Showing how much higher XF tracks than the Voice. As I expected, Ellona was sent packing. Probably weeks too late.

I am floored that those three clowns Emblem 3 are still together, let alone going on national tour. I guess Simon can make anything happen. He really wants a second, third, or fourth One Direction.

By the way, the two groups are through. Rion and Carlito had to sing one more time.

And the shows displays its dishonesty to the fullest. To complete the moronic pandering to Hispanics when they brought that trashy Rubio in, Simon sends Rion home instead of letting the public voting count. And Carlito who was plain awful goes thru.

Silly.

Carlito’s voice and musicality is definitely not his strong suit, but the kid is a performer. Alex and Sierra have a huge upside. They are refreshingly unique and Sierra just keeps getting stronger and stronger since she is fairly new at this!

Jeff Gutt had a good night but Alex and Sierra’s last song “Gravity” was amazing! I think, in the end, these two acts on XFactor are better than Jacquie Lee, Tessanne, and/or Will, from The Voice.

I agree Jshain. The Voice’s contestants’ performance this week pales in comparison to tonight’s X Factor singers. So far, I can count on Alex and Sierra to entertain us in a current and unique fashion. And admit it, you downloaded “Gravity” on iTunes. :)

I love watching Alex and Sierra as much as listening to them so, no download.
