The website still says March 20 is the “approximate” date (Wednesday). So I think it could conceivably be earlier this week, but I would also think as late as Friday would still be in range.

Does anyone know how the construction is going? So much of it on campus when we visited. Where we live is constantly under construction, I’d like my kiddo to get a break while in college. I think on the tour they mentioned the new dining hall could take a while . . .

I believe the new building will be ready for fall 2026.

That’s what I thought. Wesleyan also has a bunch of construction. I sound silly, but it’s truly awful where we live so I was hoping for a break.

The building is the most dramatic/constant construction … but the other thing going on at Amherst is a long-term complete redesign of campus heating, moving away from natural gas and to a geothermal system. This is being done to make the campus climate-neutral by 2030.

This construction project concentrates its biggest impacts in the summers (every summer when our children will be on campus), as it hooks up all buildings on campus to an underground set of pipes and removes the existing heating infrastructure.

This is a BIG redesign of campus infrastructure, and represents a massive investment by Amherst in our collective decarbonized future … but it will have some impacts. My daughter is on campus now, and lives in a residence hall right next to the construction of the new student center. She is not bothered; it is just “normal” to her in the way that people get used to things.

My son received the official email regarding RD decisions coming this Friday at 6:21pm, as others have theorized.
