Does anyone know if the FA offered covers all 4 years ,assuming family financial situation stays the same?
Yes. It is for all 4 yrs.
@Agramochroi Financial aid is reviewed each year and you and your parents will be required to submit financial information, but assuming everything remains the same it is essentially what you can expect. The award is typically increased to meet increases in tuition, etc. This should be covered in the notes concerning your financial aid award under the heading of Review of Financial Aid.
A huge congratulations to all that got in! Amherst is such a wonderful place to be and learn and my hope is that you will accept this incredible opportunity if you feel this is the right fit for you.
Those that didn’t get in, you will be where you are meant to be. Believe me. When the dust settles and your college chapter begins wherever that is for you, you will know that you landed in the best place for you. I wish you all the best!
I can’t access my financial aid award! Is everything okay?
Have you gotten it, NobleTeeren?

Amherst acceptance for Class 2024 is only 4.5% (473 out 10500 applicants). It is far below the rates typically from Amherst, Williams, and other top liberal arts colleges. Does anyone know the reason for such a low rate from Amherst this year?
I believe 473 is their ultimate enrollment target. Amherst’s yield in the past (https://www.thoughtco.com/what-is-yield-788445) is 41%, so they must have accepted around 1154. So, acceptance rate is 1154/10500=10.0%
@hela6584 Did you send in any extra materials to get in from the waitlist, like more recs or a LOCI? If you did sent in a LOCI, what do you recommend including in it? Why you want to attend Amherst along with award, EC update? Also did you send in your 2nd semester grades?
(I’m going to post my stats here for future applicants who are like me and decide to rigorously search every forum that has data regarding accepted/rejected applicants)

Essays(1-10): Common App essay would be about a 7-8 (I spent a few weeks on it); supplemental is about an 8 as well
Recommendations (1-10): I have not seen my recommendations but from what I know of the people who I’ve asked, I would not doubt them to be 9s or 10s
Additional Comments: Look, I’m going to be very blunt and honestly say that my application didn’t have anything special. I believe that my application fits what would most consider to be the “average joe.” I did sports for all four years, I honed in on an instrument for four years, and I had a GPA that matched all the other applicants within a top school like Amherst. What probably pulled my application to Amherst through was
- Demonstrated Interested - I visited the campus once in addition to also asking questions about the application process to both my counselor and the admissions office @ Amherst. Not only that, but I also applied ED, got deferred, and then accepted through RD. Evidently, I believe that the interest was enough to prove to Amherst that I would 100% go to their school if they accepted me through the RD pool.
- Essays - I can’t stress this enough, but please spend more time on your essays. I believe my essay was personalized and revealed enough information about me to show the AOs what type of person I am and how I would fit within their community. A good essay will definitely pull you forward over other applicants.
To future applicants who are looking at these forums like I previously have:
Don’t panic and don’t be scared off of everyone’s intimidating extracurriculars or stats. The college process, as a whole, is very unpredictable and if you fit the standards that the college expects for your grades and test scores, then I believe it really comes down to your essays and your dedication to extracurriculars. Of course, if you have some type of national or international award, that would help too :).
Don’t be afraid to contact me in a year’s time regarding Amherst because I’ll most likely be a freshman there. Good luck.

So I did send a LOCI as well as my second semester grades. For my LOCI, I gave updates on what I had done since sending in my application. Since I was a part of the IB program I talked about my CAS project (community based project), presentations I gave to the student body about it, new honor societies that I was inducted into and a research internship position I had just gotten accepted into. There are many different websites that can guide you on how to write a great LOCI. Feel free to PM if you have any more questions.
