Can my friend get into amherst? Qb finalist ? Rising senior

Sat : 1420/1600
Sat2’s : 650 literature, 650 math lvl1, 700 us history
GPA: 3.8 uw, top 15% in a small school
GPA showed an upwards trend

Took6 aps, all 4s and 5s

Ec’s: writing club,
literary magazine (editor),
award for writing a short story (not outstanding but a pretty nice award),
summer work experience at a garden, assistant teacher at a tutor center for like 1wk,
piano for 9-10
No other ec’s for 9th grade besides piano tho

Essay : 9/10 or 10/10, fantastic writer
Supplements prob 9/10 as well

Going to apply as a QB finalist as well with 35k income, southasian American,
BTW he became a college prep scholar too, if that makes a difference

I think you have a pretty good chance if you apply early. Also, your ECs are focused. Are you going to apply with a major in English/writing? If so, I think you have a pretty decent shot.

Do you think if his ec’s weren’t as focused he would’ve had less of a chance? And how bout his chances of qb finalist?

I’m honestly not sure. I don’t know too much about being a qb finalist other than it looks good. Regular decision will definitely be harder because he will likely be up against people with higher test scores.
