I go to a boarding school in Mass. that is perhaps the most elite school in the country. I’ve heard many Amherst students graduated from New England boarding schools as well. How true is this? I really want to mix up my surroundings a bit, and would find it kind of dull.

I’ve run into two or three that would fit in your category. Most of the people here are, I think, from public schools.

More people (perhaps many more) at Amherst are from public schools, but there’s definitely a large number of prep school grads.

I am 100% public school. You’ll have me to mix it up :)

I’m coming out of a large public school in the South!

I was amused that my guide at Amherst was wearing a Groton jacket … does it get any more prep school? But there is still quite a varied student body, so no worries.

Over 50% of the school is from public schools (including me.) There are quite a few people from private schools, but definitely not all are preps. For instance, I have a friend from the Compton-area of L.A. who went to boarding school his senior year, which counts as someone from a private school.

There are also international students, students who went to single-sex schools… and I have a friend who was homeschooled.
