Amid swine flu outbreak, racism goes viral

I didn’t want to turn this thread off topic too much, but yeah the obesity problem is probably a bigger strain on the system than illegals. Though I can’t back up that assertion, if anyone had some data, i’d be interested.

<a href=“Redirect Notice”>Redirect Notice;

Back to the illegals, if they were allowed to get preventative care without fear of deportation, they wouldn’t need as much emergency room care.

Well, if they didn’t break the law and illegally sneak into our country in the first place, this wouldn’t be such a problem.

but that’s just me talkin’ crazy again.

Yeah, silly me for thinking it would be cheaper to give illegals preventative care than to completely secure a 4,000 mile border with God-knows-how-many tunnels under it.

I endorse strict border control for the future, but I don’t see the problem with granting full amnesty (without some sort of fine) to all illegals who are currently residing in the country.

Well, a fine is a good way to discourage it. I really have no problem with amnesty as long as they pay back taxes though.

The best solution is to work with Mexico to help make Mexico a better place to live, so that people won’t feel a desperate need to leave.

A fine, to me, is an ex post facto law.

Let’s remember that most illegals come to the US because of the lure of jobs. Could we have a little equal-time bashing for agri-business and other large American corporations who illegally employ these people?

I wasn’t suggesting that, but they’re breaking the law and then complaining about healthcare and causing problems over it. But Mexico is fairly well-off compared to most developing nations and in the next century as their quality of life becomes better, I think fewer people will be desperate to leave.

As for the ones already here, i’m definitely not for deporting them and breaking up families or whatever, I just wish fewer of them would come. If everyone’s desperate to leave then it’s hard to fix problems because people aren’t focusing on how to fix their country so much as ditch it. Imagine if America was poor and everyone was trying to sneak into Canada, fewer people would be concerned about our own problems because it’s easy to say, well i’ll just get the hell out of here then.

LasMA - good point, corps want cheap labor and they want jobs…without that lure it wouldn’t be such a problem.

Anybody who is arriving from Mexico should be put in quarantine and the border should be close. Entire schools are closing for 1 case of the virus and all kids must stay home for fear of spreading it when people in direct contact with several infected individuals are crossing the border. You will say “well, the virus is already here”. As one of my friend told me, if you are in a room with one snake or in a room with 100 snakes, which room would have the highest probability of being bit by a snake? I heard that in Canada (today’s news), every individuals arriving by plane from Mexico are put in quarantine. It is not a question of being racist, the fact is that the origin of the virus is from Mexico. Spreading the virus will give it more chance to mutate in a much more dangerous strength. My opinion.

I’m sorry, but you are an idiot ^

I see I’ve opened a can of worms… :(

I don’t think Mexicans = Race.
Which also had me wondering about MSN’s title for the story.

I live in California. It’s race.

I am not pointing at Mexicans, I am referring to any individuals arriving from Mexico.

Yeah, and if a crack addict could just be given some free drugs on the taxpayer dollar without fear of repercussion, maybe they wouldn’t have to resort to robbing people.

We don’t need a 4,000 mile long wall. Just treat the border as national security issue (which it is), put some guards on the border and get the word out that it’s shoot on sight, and you’ll see a dramatic decline in illegal immigration.

In Singapore the punishment for littering is thousands of dollars plus many hours work. Do you know how clean the streets are?

Same with US companies. Make the punishment for knowingly hiring an illegal worse than a lifetime of employing a US citizen, and that will stop too.

It’s not that i’m a cold-hearted jerk. But there’s just no way to sustain ourselves at the rate they’re coming in, and what good is being compassionate if they bring us down to poverty with them.

We’ve had floods of poor immigrants from Ireland, Germany, Italy, and Poland and we’re still not a third-world country. Just relax, this isn’t any different.

…And the US never had the burden of paying for the healthcare directly and indirectly for TENS OF MILLIONS of those guys. I don’t think you see the problem here, and/or are naive. Things are just going to get worse if we don’t see any immigration reform, or even worse, the dems try to legislate taxpayer healthcare.

I mean come on, look what’s happening to California…tenth biggest economy in the world. There are other factors at play, yes, but no one will come right out and say it because they’re afraid of the moonbat pc-police.

Now imagine taxpayers don’t have to just carry the burden of illegals, but if the 100 million + (is this right?) obese folks in the country if “free” Universal Healthcare is instated.

We can’t keep it up - not due to lack of willpower, but financially.

Europe has comparable numbers of Arab immigrants and hasn’t collapsed yet. There are always doomsayers like you who impede progress. We’ll be fine.

…and here it finally comes. You can argue with a liberal all day about wanting to protect the country from gross overspending, and they’ll stick their fingers in their ears and yell “impeding progress!” until they turn blue(r) in the face.

Right…there can be no other reason for me to oppose illegal immigration other than I want to “impede” progress. I bet you’re thiiiiiis close to implying that i’m some how racist as well.

Another stupid example by the way. How many of those Arab immigrants are entering the country illegally and not paying taxes. You know how much they tax you in Europe, right?

For the record, I have nothing against Legal immigration at all, but to be painted as some kind of troglodytic xenophobe by a “lets spend all we want and not worry about the consequences [“we’ll be fine”]” liberal for actually thinking about consequences is what bothers me about modern political discourse.
