Amid swine flu outbreak, racism goes viral

LogicWarrior, you’re missing the point because you’re talking about LEGAL immigrants vs Illegal. I have no problem with legal immigrants, most Americans are the descendents of immigrants or immigrants ourselves. If someone legally immigrates here, that’s swell, hope they like America and pay their damn taxes like everyone else.

But these are illegal immigrants, and your attitude seems to be that it’s ok for people to come here illegally and heck, we’ll even pay millions for their healthcare if they like. I said I’m not for deporting current illegals and splitting up families and such, but the border issue needs to be taken seriously.

And most of those Arab immigrants are once again, legal. Their countries don’t share borders with Western Europe, that’s why millions of them aren’t illegally hopping the border, so to speak. And healthcare in many of those countries is free since they pay it through their taxes.

We DO pay for their health care. We’d pay less if we paid for preventative health care.

Exactly. And I said before that I think that it’s OK for illegal immigrants to apply for legal status if they pay back taxes.

…and we’d pay even less than that if the ILLEGAL immigrants paid taxes too.

That’s the issue here. Tens of MILLIONS.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t pay taxes.

Well then what are you arguing against us for?

And good luck finding a way to convince the tens of millions of illegals to start paying taxes.

The benefits of citizenship? The removed threat of deportation?

Illegal immigration is a growing problem in Europe. Rickety little boats set out from Africa trying to reach the Canary Islands or a tiny Italian island not far from Malta. The shanty town in Calais France is a political time bomb and the UK isn’t pleased that all the people there are trying to get smuggled across the channel. Central and South Americans overstay their visas in Spain.

This is not a US only problem.

Here are some figures from Europe:

AMNESTIES
France: 152,000 (1998)
Greece: 397,000 (1998)
Italy: 308,000 (1998)
Spain: 700,000 (2005)
Source: Individual governments. Figures refer to illegal immigrants given form of residency.

2006 August-September - Spain tries to rally international support over illegal immigration from Africa. Canary Islands officials say more than 22,000 immigrants have arrived on the islands since the start of the year and hundreds have died while attempting the sea crossing.

^ Dude, no one’s denying illegal immigration is a problem all over the world. This thread was about swine flu and how it was brought over from Mexico, then we brought up illegal immigration from Mexico and its impact on the healthcare system. We know illegal immigration is a problem in Europe too, and i’m sure it impacts their healthcare system and such. It’s just sad these people are dying on boats just attempting to get there, though.

Back to swine flu, it seems like some officials - like McCain - want the US to close borders http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/30/health/30flu.html?pagewanted=all</a> but that’s not gonna happen…I personally don’t think it would matter.

It’s already here. Of course it wouldn’t matter.

Well, it could matter. The more people with H1F1 (is that what we are supposed to call it now?) that come over the border, the faster it could potentially spread. I personally don’t think it’s necessary to close the border, but I would if it was Small Pox…

This is just paranoia being fueled by the media. How many people die from the typical flu each year? Compare that to how many have died with this latest H1N1 strain; you’ll see that this is all ridiculous.

Pigs can fly! The swine flew!

Do you know what the number of people who die of a typical flu would be? Like, an estimation. I was thinking about that earlier. 150+ people have died of it in Mexico, but I have no idea how many people ACTUALLY die of a typical flu…

[Flu usually causes about 36,000 deaths in the United States each year. Most deaths are among the elderly, very young or those with medical conditions such as asthma or heart disease. Pneumonia resulting from flu is usually the fatal complication.](http://www.healthfinder.gov/news/newsstory.aspx?docID=622940)<-Interesting/ironic article.

Why are such a stupid a$$hole?
Would you really like to know?
Well, pay your fee, remove your clothes, and Yvette will show you how
You went to school, where you were taught to fear and to obey
Be cheerful, fit in, or someone might think you’re weird!
Life can be perfect
People can be trusted
Someday, I will fall in love; a nice quiet home of my very own
Free from all the pain
Happy and having fun, all the time
It never happened, did it?

We got a drug
We’re gonna try it out on you
Won’t make you die
It’ll getcha just a little bit sick

Got a head cold
Got a chest cold
And it’s three days old
Goin’ on forever
Make you hazy
Make you lazy
Drive you crazy
For days and days and days and days and days
And years

Barely got the time now
To stay on the job
Double up the dosage in your water supply
Make you even sicker ‘til you’re slippin’ away

Getting all depressed
It’s getting all your friends
You can’t get it up
For nothing that’ll rock the boat

The government flu
The government flu
The government flu

Slip it abroad
Keep a-slowin’ down the USSR
But meanwhile
We’ll keep an eye
On what it’s doin’ to you

Got a head cold
Got a chest cold
And it’s three days old
Goin’ on forever
Make you hazy
Make you lazy
Drive you crazy
For days and days and days and days and days
And days and days and days and days and days
And days and days and days and days and days
And years

The government flu

Ooh, pretty rainbows…

that’s all I have to contribute to this discussion. :(

Did anybody honestly expect anything from the conservative establishment other than more jingoistic, anti-intellectual drivel?
