Hey all,

So… it’s that time of year again. The realization of what your semester GPA is going to be. For me, this has never really been a huge issue. In high school, I had a 4.4 GPA, and both semesters of my freshman year at W&M I earned a 3.6. I’m a double major in Computer Science and Physics, and I must say, I’m in the hole right now.

I just calculated my best possible GPA for this semester, and it’s a 2.3. Most likely case, a 1.7. I’m horrified at this number, but I look back and realize I don’t think I could have done better. Here was my courseload:

Experimental Atomic Physics
Modern Physics
Software Development
Discrete Structures of Mathematics
Multivariable Calculus

I simply could not keep up with the work. Every hour of the day I had a major project to work on, a problemset, lab report, anything. I would spend 30+ hours on the software projects, with the latest one taking me 50+ hours. When I got done those projects, I would have to turn in my problemsets late for physics and calc, hurting my grade in those classes.

Anyway, I have no idea what to do, or where to go. I’m definitely dropping my Physics major, as I simply can’t handle two science majors. Does anyone have any feedback? Is this a reasonable outcome for what I signed myself up for, or is this just me being lazy? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
