An essay that is 734 words in length

For topic one of the common app essay, I produced an essay of 734 words. While it may seem too long, it is an essay that reflects on gratitude and perseverance, and ultimately takes a look back at significant events of my past. Essentially I like it the way it is written, but I am not sure if the word count is too much. If it is too much, is there any advice on how I could reduce it without sacrificing necessary details?

That length is fine, just make sure you don’t have “fluff”, ie: extra info that’s unnecessary.

Good luck!

What would be considered fluff? Considering it is the first topic, I also talked about how my experiences have led me to consider a career in medicine. Would talking about this commitment be considered premature, or as you say, “fluff”?

By fluff I mean unnecessary information. Basically, fluff is unimportant/filler info that has no real meaning to the essay.

I’m sure you can decided for yourself what is fluff, and what is not. Is it full of cliches? Does every word count?

Good luck.
