An expression in an essay

I’m writing about the most influential person in my life… she was a counselor from one of summer camps I went to. Is it okay if I addressed her as “the pick of the litter among the stringent counselors?” It may sound like I’m comparing all the counselors to dogs or something… what do ya guys think?

Summer camps make me think of animals so why not? It could possibly extend that “summer camp” feeling to the reader. Or, it could portray you as an inconsiderate and disrespectful ■■■■■■■(can i say that?). Are you a risk taker?

Hmm… bump -_-

How about if you said “cream of the crop” instead? “Pick of the litter” sorta sounds like you are looking down on your counselor instead of looking up to her.
