An Interesting situation...

Recently, my friend said he got waitlisted at UPenn CAS, but called and argued for an hour and was taken off the waitlist shortly after. He also said he won some merit-based scholarship from there.

However, he says that he cannot afford the tuition and is thus just going to the state flag school. Is there legitimacy in his claims?

hahaha UPenn does NOT offer merit-based scholarships (the whole Ivy League doesn’t). He might be lying or not. But most likely, he is. :P

Impossibilities:
-Penn accepting someone off the waitlist in April
-Penn accepting someone off the waitlist over the phone
-Penn offering a merit-based scholarship

That’s a lot of impossible for such a short story.

Sounds like he’s lying.

The first impossibility is actually possible. Small numbers usually but ivies do accept people off wl quite early. A few people I know got off the wl from cornell in like the first 2 weeks.

however, disgradius, did they call up and argue to be taken off?

of course not, it doesn’t work unless you became a billionaire overnight and are calling them to inform them of their ‘mistake’ in sending you the wrong decision letter.
