An old book, a new play

How do you categorize a play for monologue audition purposes if the story is old but the play is new? For example, “Sense & Sensibility” the book was written in 1811 by English author Jane Austen, of course, but there is a 2005 version of the play “dramatized” by an American, Ashley J. Barnard.
So for those MT schools that care deeply about dates and the home country of the author, how would we categorize this example?

That sounds like it could be tricky. Technically the 2005 adaptation is a modern American adaptation; but if it is written to mimic the original, I think you could classify it as 19th century British.

If the text reads the exact same way as the text in the book, I’d go with Austen. If it’s been altered, then it’s more of a gray area.

If all else fails, you could try emailing the MT department(s) for whom you are auditioning.
