an unfortunate event

Hello all. I’m a pre-med at Case Western. At the end of the first semester I recieved A’s in my Intro Chem, Chem lab, Economics, and freshman seminar courses. Unfortunately, however, I had a nasty case of food poisioning during finals week and fainted during my pre-calculus final. As a result, I failed the exam; the professor won’t let me retake it, and the grade weighting means that that exam grade made me fail the course. So, I guess the question at this point is-am I done in terms of being able to go to medical school? Will med schools be more lenient if I take that pre-calculus course over? (I’m sure I could get an A if I did.) Will the schools take sickness, etc. into account in a situation like this? I feel so screwed.

I’m so sorry about your fainting incident. I really hope that all works out. I’m sure everything will be fine. I’m responding because I’m REALLY interested in Case Western pre-med. I am currently a freshman at a small liberal arts school and am planning on transferring next year and Case is right now at the top of my list. I would love it if you could just tell me what Case is like or what it’s like being pre-med at Case. Anything you can tell me about your experience would be great! From your grades it seems like you’re doing great! If you’d be intersted in discussing this on IM that would be great too. Anyways, any info/input/anything you can tell me would be great! Thanks a lot!

I would just go straight into Calc now if you think you can handle it. the higher level course will recieve much more weight than the pre-calculus course.

Overall, pre-med at Case is solid and enjoyable. In the upper-level courses it’s supposed to get difficult but I haven’t really experienced that yet. It is a LOT of work, though, so be aware of what you’re getting into. Basically, just put in the time and you’ll be perfectly fine.

If you’d like to discuss Case further, my AIM sc is “dozitgetchahi”. I’d be happy to answer any questions.
