As much as I enjoy Anacortes, if the boat is kept there, it’s in some seriously nasty salt water. We kept ours there for three months while it was for sale, and even though we paid someone to clean the bottom, it got gross really fast. Can’t imagine the damage it does over time if people aren’t constantly getting the bottom and rudder cleaned. Plus, I don’t think there’s a single covered slip in Anacortes, so we were constantly cleaning the bird crap off of it.

Lots of covered slips here. I’m curious if the issues you had were related to one season or a particular marina. We’ve never had the issues you described. Husband managed 3 boats at his job and son owns two boats (all moored all year) and don’t think there were/are any out of the ordinary pnw cleaning/maintenance issues.
Whoa.
We had our boat moored at Cap Sante Marina. No covered slips there, and I swear, the seagulls used our boat for target practice immediately after we cleaned it up. I recall looking years earlier for a covered slip in Anacortes, and maybe the issue was that there weren’t many, and none were available to us. I think we got spoiled by keeping boats on a lift or in the water in Lake Washington for years, fresh water, and didn’t like the barnacles and seaweed that wanted to live under the waterline of our boat when it was in salt water. Never needed a bottom cleaning when on the lake.
I’m so confused. ![]()
Oh yeah. Not there. All the slips at Fidalgo Marina and Anchor Cove are covered. Probably close to half at Anacortes Marina and maybe 50 at Skyline Marina.
The seagulls though? It’s like a marina version of “The Birds” ![]()
