Does anyone have any tips towards eliminating answers for these sections if you have NO idea of what the word means? A friend told me that in the antonyms section, if 2 answers basically mean the same thing they can’t be the answer (kind of obvious, but looking for tips like this).

That’s not the greatest advice because many times a question will use a qualifier (i.e., choose the answer that is MOST similar… etc.,), so even if two words have the same ‘basic’ meaning or essence, one may still be the answer.

For example, take the words ‘fortitude’ and ‘strength’. Fortitude implies strength, but strength doesn’t necessarily imply fortitude, so if you had to come up with the antonym of ‘spinelessness’, then ‘fortitude’ would be the better of the two answers.

The frustrating thing about the Verbal section is that many times there are no ‘tricks’ and ‘strategies’ if there are no obvious root word hints besides actually knowing or being familiar with the words. Study more.
