Analyze my first semester of highschool as freshman.

Well, I’m going to break in 2 days and finals aren’t until after break but I was feeling a little disappointing with the grades I got and I was going through articles and I stumbled upon this forum. I need some I guess assessment on what to focus on and if I need to improve and what not.

P.E- (A) This wasn’t a problem ever, I just showed up and took care of business and got the A. Don’t have to worry about this.

Language- (A) I started off not knowing anything and I fell behind the first half and had a C because I didn’t know anything but than I spent thanksgiving break learning the alphabet and reading sentences and I got up to an A.

LifeSkills- (A) This was another class where I really didn’t have to do much, I usually participate the most in any class and most of this class grade is based solely on participation.

Honors English- (A) Even though I got an A, I’m not too pleased because my teacher grades Essays on a 0-5 scale. I got a 3.0 on the first two and after I re-did the second one I got a 3.2, which is a little frustrating because writing has always been my high point and I was the best in class but in this class I’m blow average. But I got a 5/5 on my project and I do all my work and participate so I managed to get an A.

Honors Biology- (B) This was another class where I started off really slow, on the first test I got a C- and had C at the end of 1 quarter. However I Aced the next two and managed to get an A. Even though, I realized that if I had not messed up on the first one I would have easily gotten an A. This is actually my best subject. I’m sure I can ace this next quarter.Although, the B is really stinging me.

Algebra 1: (B) I didn’t do many homework assignments because I thought it was worth 10 percent of our grades and that messed me over. I have a A- average on quizzes and A average on tests and this class is very easy for me. I also do intend on taking Geo over the summer and Alg. 2 next year.

I don’t want to make it seem like I’m overly stressed over Freshman year because I’m not but I just wanted some feedback since I’m dissapointed that my GPA is a 4.0 because most my cousins told me to try to pad my GPA as best as possible and get a 4.2 because it would help me in the long run.

Thanks to anyone who cares to read and give me feedback.

Don’t ever ‘not’ do homework or any assignment simply because it won’t count much towards your overall grade in the class. The point of the class is to learn the material. Don’t feel pride in your grades; feel pride in the knowledge and experience that you have gained.
I think you are on a good path so far. Obviously, try to up your grades in Algebra and Biology and maintain your other grades (Don’t slack off). I wouldn’t dwell too much on the 4.0 vs. 4.2. You’ve done a decent job of your first semester and all you can do now is look forward (to finals).

With where my grades are the Finals won’t have any positive effects on my grades, although they can have alot of negative effects if I mess up. Although, I do look forward to putting in more effort and getting All A’s second semester.

Yes…that is what you are…

Getting a C on a test is not the end of the world.

sigh Only on CC…only on CC

@CE527:
A weighted of 4.0 can be considered terrible depending on where OP attends. At my old rigorous private international school a weighted of 3.9 would likely make you valedictorian, but here at my public school at NC? A weighted of 4.1 will not even put you in the top 10%.
