And again.... shooting at Texas church. Multiple dead & injured

Exactly. To me, the elementary school massacre should have been the turning point. If that didn’t do it, nothing will. I have zero expectation that anything will change after today, after Las Vegas, etc. We are completely impotent.

I think some kind of liability ruling against gun manufacturers and stores that sell them could break this stranglehold. When nothing happened after Sandy Hook, where six year olds were literally dismembered by gunfire, I knew that no straight on appeal to the humanity of our politicians and the NRA was possible. They have none.

Where’s your citation for that, hannuhylu? And by citation, I don’t mean some unsupported rumor you saw in the dark corners of the Internet or heard from the likes of Alex Jones. All I’ve seen is that he was a young white guy dishonorably discharged from the Air Force for domestic violence, and liked to post pictures of his guns on social media. If you don’t have any evidence, then posting what you did is inexcusable.

Stop rumormongering. The killer was a white guy who’d been thrown out of the air force, not dishonorably discharged, but thrown out for domestic violence against his wife and child. Does that sound anything like antifa? No. Do you have any evidence that the guy was an antifa guy? (Fiction sites like Alex Jones don’t count.) No. Stop spreading trash; it’s irresponsible, and people have to pick up after you.

4chan is the one who started the antifa rumor. Legit source. Good job.

Disgusting that someone here would post made-up garbage. I doubt any parent would be that irresponsible, so I’m guessing that this person is a student.

@DonnaL I so, so wish that were true. Unfortunately there are literally millions of parents who think that or think like that :frowning:

@romanigypsyeyes, unfortunately, you’re right.

Domestic violence and he has unfettered access to guns? We’re not very smart are we.

But he was dressed in black so he must be antifa so none of this counts… (sarcasm)

@DonnaL, poster is not a student. Poster is a parent.

The thoughts and prayers while they were worshiping obviously did nothing.
I am tired of these events and the horror they visit on undeserving innocent people. The time for thoughts and prayers is long gone. Until rational people take hold of this country and get rid of personal weapons of mass destructions, there will be more shootings and more death.

It always makes me laugh when I read questions in travel forums from Americans wondering if it is safe to travel to various European countries.

Would money make a difference? I don’t know. I do know that the pro-gun mentality of the TX government is but one item that keeps me out of that state. Unfettered access to guns which have but one purpose - to kill fellow humans - will destroy this country.

It doesn’t sound like there is a large amount of information released yet about this man. Initial reports are often incorrect, and people will quickly make the wrong conclusion.

But it wouldn’t be much of a stretch that this man was part of a group that advocates and celebrates violence. Not sure why anyone would jump to defend any one of those groups.

@hannuhylu where do you get your info from? I can’t find anything that says the gunman was antifa.

It really should be disturbing to all of us how easy this is to predict. But it’s not even surprising. It’s eye-roll worthy for the sheer predictability.

I said it in a thread a few days ago and a handful of posters slammed me and others. Here’s exhibit A of how right we are.

@hannuhylu people lose all credibility on here when they start spouting things that were created by a group of depraved swamp creatures on the cesspool know as 4chan

“The thoughts and prayers while they were worshiping obviously did nothing.” Perhaps one of the most callous sentiments I’ve read on CC.

@pilot2012, why is that callous? It is a fact that they were worshipping, yet they were gunned down and killed. Praying at the time did nothing for them. Prayers after did nothing. STOP THE GUNS!

I would say almost 100% of posters on this thread support gun control and want to take actions to prevent future shootings, but we can’t seem to get our government to do something about it. Are posters on this forum outliers or is it the officials we have voted to put in the office no longer represent us?
Posters on this forum do not usually agree on any topic, from rape, Greek life, education, money…but this is one topic most of us are in agreement on. So why can’t we get the legislature to pass gun control laws?

Very astute observation. I would suggest that most Americans support some gun control - wth lots of variations on what form(s) it should take. My thought is Dems are reluctant to promote any gun control legislation as hard right wing will trash them and rile up the base with the “coming to take away your guns” nonsense. Another example of why bipartisan cooperation is desperately lacking and sorely needed.

If the shoe fits…
