There is public transportation from Lyndhurst to Hoboken, just go to [New Jersey Transit - Home](http://www.njtransit.com).

I live near Lyndhurst and yes, I will agree that the “nine miles” between it and Hoboken is not a normal nine miles. Route three is a pain in the neck just about all the time. Even though you’re going against rush hour traffic at night, you’re definitely going with evening NYC traffic. It’s hard to find back roads, because the Meadowlands (one of my personal favorite places in the world, but not particularly navigable) is in between.

I’ve gotten lost before in that Union City, West NY, Weehawken, Hoboken, etc stretch, but once you learn your exits and turns, it should get easier.

I think PMK had the best advice; I need to remember it myself. My commute is a ten minute walk, but if I succeed in finding a job where I want to move to, it will be more likely an hour drive.

Perhaps you can get H to come into the city once in a while during the week and meet you for dinner?

Congratulations on your job!!! I missed this thread while I was in NYC this past week (celebrating my S2 being voted off the island!), but Thumper1 gave me a heads-up. That’s great!

VH - We would not have survived NYC without our GPS. And Teammom gave us the tip about the radio stations (was it 1010 and 680?) that tell which bridges are backed up. We went over GW (north) without a bit of trouble, and our GPS got us into the right lanes for the express lanes and all that. No wrong turns, and very little traffic (in comparison) on the north end of the island. We even found free street parking right smack in front of S’s apt. Beginner’s luck?

But I am grateful to be back in the “easy” Atlanta traffic. Don’t envy you that at all!

Sounds like your job is a mixed blessing. Hope it all settles out well.

Garland, thanks for the tips. I plan to try the Lyndhurst-to-Hoboken again tomorrow night, and we’ll see if it’s do-able. I think DH is thinking that by driving down to NJ during the week, he’ll get to have a honeymoon with some new woman in a new place!

Binx, thank you! I am thrilled – this seems to be a terrific company, with remarkable people. Not to mention that, after 15 months of working at a contract assignment and getting unemployment, it will be nice to have benefits again that aren’t COBRA!
