And now, Bob Newhart... and adding Lou Dobbs now too

His humor and presence transcended generations. RIP and thanks for so many good moments.

As well as an homage to the series finale of St. Elsewhere, in which it’s shown that the entire series was a figment of Tommy Westphall’s (a young Chad Allen in one of his first roles) imagination.

The device has been used since, and invariably badly, most notably in the 9th season of Will & Grace and the Roseanne spin off - The Conners.

The Marc Maron Podcast (a comedian who interviews other comedians) has a 2 hour special featuring his past interviews with Bob Newhart. July 19th broadcast.
Bob talks about how he got into comedy and making his records. Fascinating and very funny at the same time. He’s 80 at the time of the first interview and sharper than ever.

Marc Maron has some great interviews (he’s interviewed famous and not so famous) but others to look for are Jonathan Winters and Robin Williams.

But enjoy the Bob Newhart interview. He even has part of a bit that is hilarious but never got recorded.

Was the device used on The Conners? Don’t recall that. It was definitely used on Roseanne, as Roseanne won the lottery and lived a crazy life for a while, then it was shown to have been a dream, as she suddenly was back around the poverty line (they may have even killed off Dan)

If I have ‘misremembered’ please correct me!

Sorry, you are correct. I was misremembering the Roseanne revival as the first season of The Conners, when in fact Roseanne was back for one season in 2018, cancelled due to Barr’s Twitter shenanigans, and was succeeded by The Conners.

Dan died at the end of Roseanne’s 1990’s run, but is alive in the revival
