I first knew of him as Professor Proton in The Big Bang Theory, but through classic TV channels, have seen many episodes of his iconic shows

We still have albums of his (and Tom Lehrer’s) stand up routines and Tom Lehrer’s songs. Clever, witty, funny stuff.
My father looked like Bob Newhart and had the same dry sense of humor. I liked catching old episodes of Newhart’s shows because it brought me back to my father who passed away 11 years ago.

Bob Newhart was one of my all time favorites. He sure left a great legacy for any comedian or actor to follow. What a talented guy. Thank goodness for reruns!
Absolutely one of the funniest scenes in television history
I loved Bob Newhart in a small role he had in Hell is for Heroes, in which he performed very earnest sounding fake telephone conversations from a foxhole as he pretended that there were too many soldiers in an effort to convince eavesdropping Germans that they were outnumbered. Later, I loved his relationship with his TV-wife Suzanne Pleshette; they had wonderful chemistry. He will be missed.

The Newhart finale was more hysterical at the time because it’s how Dallas brought back main character Bobby who was was killed during the prior season–essentially saying the last season didn’t exist.
