And now UF joins the ED bandwagon

as discussed here: UF will offer early decision

UF realized that many of the schools it increasingly competes with for high-achieving students were using ED to secure commitments months before regular decisions. UF decided it wanted the same ability to lock in students early rather than waiting until spring. Not sure there is anything else here.

It’s an increasing trend among several schools this year to modify application/admission processes. We are seeing schools adding ED, removing supplemental essays, adding demonstrated interest, etc. Seems perhaps the state may be the one advancing this particular idea since IIRC FSU did this as well. In fact, UF used to have an ED option in the early 2000’s until the board of trustees eliminated it in 2007.

It strikes me as very interesting that there are these admissions shufflings. Perhaps it happens every year - but it seems very noticeable this year:woman_shrugging:

I agree we are watching admissions offices adapt to a new environment created by Common App volume, yield pressures, rankings incentives, and changing student behavior. I do not love it because I generally think it hurts more students than it helps. Given UF’s recent success with yield, I was surprised they chose this route. I was also surprised when Michigan did something similar last year.

We are in an interesting period. Colleges are using increasingly sophisticated enrollment-management strategies, while many applicants and families are still learning how the game is being played.
