Why is this happening? What is going on in this world. Nothing show surprise me anymore. Can’t take anything for granted.
Terrorist.
Sigh…press conference happening right now.
I saw a Tweet that sums up my feelings exactly:
“Fill in the blanks:
A ___ entered a ___ and opened fire with a . people were killed. Pray for _______.”
This is the norm in America.
Another day, another mass murder. Yawn.
And the answer from the usual suspects is that we need more guns.
Knives kill, too, 5 stabbed to death,
By all means control guns. But if you think gun control will eliminate killing, you are delusional. We have to address the underlying issue, what drives people to mass killing. While we focus on gun control, indulging in republican bashing, the real reason why people do these things go unnoticed.
It’s a lot easier to outrun a knife than a bullet.
I don’t think it’s hard to kill 5 with a knife. We call that mass murder, don’t we? Or if pushed, people can build a simple bomb or set fire. They will kill more than a gun can. We hear mass killing and all we hear following is gun control. A gun is a mean to be violent. If the underlying issue is not addressed people will find means to be violent. It’s a cheap shot focusing on gun control, easy to look good.
“I don’t think it’s hard to kill 5 with a knife.”
Perhaps not, but knives have a lot of other uses (to cut food, to carve, to open packages, etc.) Guns only have two uses - to kill or practice killing.
It’s not a cheap shot at all. We have way more homicides than anywhere else in the developed world, and the difference is the number of gun homicides. Not to mention accidental shooting deaths. Eliminating guns does not eliminate homicides or accidental deaths-by-weapon, but eliminating guns seems to eliminate most homicides and all accidental shooting deaths. It’s delusional to believe otherwise.
Not that, as a practical matter, we can eliminate guns without a constitutional amendment. But I wish we had the constitutional amendment.
Last night’s breaking news didn’t faze me and all I thought was, “again”. Now, that’s what scares me.
That was my exact thought process, @lilmom
I wanted to post a much more sarcastic title but thought it in poor taste. But I still wanted to get across my point of “Oh look, it’s a day that ends in “y”, must be time for a mass shooting.”
"Not that, as a practical matter, we can eliminate guns without a constitutional amendment. But I wish we had the constitutional amendment. "
We do have a constitutional amendment, the 2nd Amendment, but it does the opposite of what you suggest. It protects our rights to have guns.
I’m not looking forward to taking my grandson to see a movie this weekend. I’ll be checking out everybody else as well as anyone who enters the theater late.
When I subbed in three local schools last year I was given a badge with a key attached to it. The key wasn’t to open the door to come back in from the playground or other doors in the buildings as I had assumed. The key was to lock the classroom door in the event of a shooting. The kids know what the key is for.
How come the policeman killed at a traffic stop in California wasn’t widespread heavily covered national news?
That’s so sad, @TonyK. I dropped my daughter off at the theater to meet her friends last month. The Aurora incident did cross my mind but I told myself not to worry about it. Now, I’m not so sure.
@rhandco because there are approximately 40 homicides per day in this country. Not all of them are newsworthy. Thankfully, or we’d be even more saturated in the media with news of death.
“How come the policeman killed at a traffic stop in California wasn’t widespread heavily covered national news?”
Because it wasn’t a mass shooting of innocent people going about their daily lives.
