This just makes me sad. It makes me wonder when the next tragedy will happen, and where. Something needs to change. This is unacceptable.
“It makes me wonder when the next tragedy will happen, and where.”
At the rate we are going, I’d say sometime next week.
Thumper - I know! I was just hitting some of the highlights (or lowlights) because an exhaustive list would just be too exhausting … and depressing.
I wish I believed that things would change, but I’m just too cynical about this topic (and more than a little numb).
The Lafayette killer was apparently a notorious misogynist, anti-feminist, and fan of the Westboro Baptist Church. (So perhaps the movie he chose for his rampage was not a coincidence, and he picked it because he assumed that there would be a lot of women there he could kill.) Am I surprised? Not a bit. Will a lot of people simply blame mental illness, and ignore his extreme political views? Of course.

Odd that no one mentioned the Chattanooga killings of 5 service men by an Islamic terrorist. Not even a thread on that. (I would have started one but I was away).
It’s not at all clear that he was an Islamic terrorist. He had a pretty serious drinking and substance abuse problem, which is definitely not Islamic.

Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez…another American citizen with a gun.
“Odd that no one mentioned the Chattanooga killings of 5 service men by an Islamic terrorist. Not even a thread on that. (I would have started one but I was away).”
So start one now if you want to discuss that topic. I am sure it will get a lot of posts.
Right! I mean, why complain about something not posted when you won’t do it yourself?
Well considering that it’s me that has started most of the most recent threads about shootings, let me apologize (sarcasm) for missing a mass shooting. I sincerely apologize. (Because, you know, only 1-2 people can make threads about topics on here…) To be honest, I don’t even remember hearing about that one because I’ve been swamped with work and not really watching too much news. The only reason I saw this was because the puppy had me up very late and there was nothing else on.
So you’re right, I’ve posted about the two right wing, white terrorists I’ve heard about lately. Feel free to start one about another.
Since there is no thread on the Chattanooga shootings I will post this here.
For those of you not following it - the gun nuts have been up in arms that recruitment offices are gun free zones so the gun nuts have decided to protect them voluntarily (like the group of civvies who were at the boarder a few years ago (what ever happened to them?)
"Christopher A. Reed, 28, of Lancaster, was charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits, and was issued a summons to appear in Fairfield County Municipal Court on Tuesday, according to the police incident report.
Reed told the officer who responded that he was standing, holding his AR-15 rifle in front of the military recruiting station to guard the personnel inside when someone approached him and asked if he could take a look at the weapon. Reed agreed to show him, and while he was trying to clear the ammunition from the weapon, he accidentally fired into the asphalt pavement.
The only damage was a hole in the pavement. The rifle was taken from Reed pending his appearance in court, the incident report says."
So, not only can he not handle his gun safely, he was gong to hand it over to a complete stranger!
Gun rights nuts keep arguing that they are responsible but I don’t believe most of them are. Remember the women in Idaho whose toddler reached into her handbag, found the gun and shot and killed her? Or the many stories of kids finding their parents fully loaded guns and shooting a playmate or sibling?
What will you be looking for? Law school graduates, retired cops and neuroscience graduate students?
Speaking of Christian terrorists…

romani, time to get some guns and shoot these protesters when they trespass at the funeral.
Yes, emilybee, people have – of course! – been blaming President Obama for failing to arm the military at recruitment offices, notwithstanding the fact that this has been the case since President Bush (the first one, I believe),
Oh looky here. The gunman flew a confederate flag at his house. What a surprise.

He had a long long LONG history of mental health problems, anger problems, criminal problems, financial problems, domestic problems. And yet he legally got a gun. And some people see nothing wrong with this at all.
I spit on the Death Amendment.
" Odd that no one mentioned the Chattanooga killings of 5 service men by an Islamic terrorist. Not even a thread on that. (I would have started one but I was away). "
But that doesn’t fit the narrative here or comply with the common theme of the posts here. What were you thinking , bringing that up
?
@lje62 you, too, are more than welcome to make a thread about it
So then, we aren’t allowed to post comments with opinions that don’t tow the line romanigysyeyes ? Is it necessary to start a new thread where we can all agree , just want to clarify …and thanks for granting me permission
