And we lost another... sleep well, Leonard Cohen

Loved his writing, loved his music, especially Hallelujah. Sleep well.

Agreed. Very sad. His music appealed to all generations; my grandparents, my parents, my siblings and my daughter were all huge fans. My daughter saw him in concert fairly recenly (last couple of years) and said he was still amazing.

sadness.

Well now wait just a minute!! Wen I saw the notice of his death, I checked his wiki page to confirm, and it does list that he died today. So I assumed it was accurate and posted this thread. BUT… his website does NOT list any reference to his passing. So I checked further and there is a reference on google to a hoax. Sooooo… Hallejuyah - he might still be with us!

** update**. His facebook page says he has passed away- with plans for a memorial service in LA at a later date… and just now it updated on his website… :frowning:

All the major news orgs are reporting the sad news, so it is confirmed.

“The birds they sang at the break of day. Start again I heard them say. Don’t dwell on what has passed away or what is yet to be…ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
Anthem.
My favorite

That’s how the light gets in.
Sigh

Nooooo!!! :frowning:

“Like a bird on the wire. Like a drunk in a midnight choir. I have tried in my way to be free.”

So sad.

I “discovered” Leonard …or he 'discovered" me in the 1970’s.
I was just in love with his voice and his words.
H and I went to a major concert venue in Portland, OR in 1983 to hear him.
We drove two hours from our small town for the concert.
There were less than 200 people in attendance. The venue holds over a thousand.
He was fabulous!
I am seriously so happy that he released his newest album so recently.

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

There is a war between the rich and poor,
a war between the man and the woman.
There is a war between the ones who say there is a war
and the ones who say there isn’t.
Why don’t you come on back to the war, that’s right, get in it,
why don’t you come on back to the war, it’s just beginning.

Rest in Power, Leonard Cohen. Rest in Power.

This is a great profile:

So many of his beautiful lyrics are so timely.

RIP Leonard Cohen.

Suzanne takes your hand and she leads you to the river
She’s wearing rags and feathers from Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbor
And she shows you where to look among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed, there are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love and they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds her mirror

We all need to find the heroes in the seaweed these days.

Pentatonix (a capella group) just released a video of his song “Hallelujah” that has gone viral. I’ve always loved that song and enjoy all the different covers of it.

^^ Canadian.

So sad, we just enjoyed listening to the Live in London CD and the one that followed in the car on a recent long drive and remarked that next time he is appearing in NY we have to get tickets to see him.

I have the first album in vinyl in my basement…

We all need his poetry in the world especially this week. . I for one will always include him in my Yizkor memorial prayers.

Shalom.

“So long, Marianne” makes me smile every time I hear it, and cry some of the time. I love that song. Will miss him a lot.
