Are these exams not proctered? I mean, wouldn’t someone notice a kid walking over to a third floor window and taking a piece of paper from someone outside the window?

Another news article said that the same thing happened in previous years, only this year it was reported.
Perhaps CC parents should be more ready to believe kids who post about their obsessed parents…
When I first heard this, I was alternately amused, incredulous and sad.

Perhaps some cc’ers should be more willing to believe the reports of cheating overseas on standardized testing.
This blatant cheating in poor villages in India whose parents want their children to get out and have a better life is sad, but surely there must be other ways to address this situation. Teaching your kid that cheating is ok is just…not.
Pet peeve. Realizing that this “whatever it takes to get the credentials” culture continues up to the cheating to get an H1-B visa to replace the tech worker here.
Or to get an education here and then go back to their home country.
It’s more basic than that. Kids from poor backgrounds who do well on the test get a cash bonus. Their families need the money. These aren’t kids cheating to get into a university. These are kids cheating so their families can get a little money to put food in their bellies.
Someone elsewhere compared it to looting after natural disasters. I do not feel these situations are equivalent. As for the basic need of these families, poverty is a horrible plight. But scaling walls and passing cheating materials- then denied by the head of the school district despite clear video. Sad all the was around.
And the cheating probably continues once they get to their University in the US. Yes, I realize students here cheat too, but if it is such a common accepted practice it might not even be seen as something they shouldn’t be doing.
I recently read the book “Beyond the Beautiful Forevers”. Sad but enlightening book speaking to the slum life in India and the pervasive poverty and the graft ingrained in much of the country’s culture. The desperation described gives some background to understanding why people do some of the things like above. It’s worth a read.
