Anderson Cooper is Gay

I don’t know why this should be news, except that when I first saw this on the NYT I thought it said he had gray hair!

When I went to the Guardian, there it was again, and this time I read it correctly.

Why would anyone care?

If I had to guess, I’m sure Fox News will care. I’ll find out when I watch the Daily Show!

Good for him for feeling able to acknowledge who he is. This should be anyone’s right. It should and does not matter. In truth it should not be “news”.

Good! He can go hang out with John Travolta and Tom Cruise! (jk)

This is news?

Haha I’ve seen this on like 2 other forums…

But anyway, it wasn’t that hard to figure out.

I always thought that was a pretty open secret. He seems very private, but many people that I know in NY have seen him out with his bf for a few years. If he officially came out, I think that is great. He is another one that may change a few minds about masculinity and gay stereotypes.

all the same, I will not tell my mother with Alzheimers. He is one of her televison boyfriends, along with Mike Rowe.

What next? Is Rachel Madow going to be outed? I only mention her because I watched her show several times and didn’t think anything either way, but then I saw her as a guest on another show (might have been the Daily Show) and she looked a lot different from how she appears on her own show, which elicited an “oh” from me.

I’m paraphrasing Tina Fey from her book “Bossypants” – the hardest part about people you know “coming out” to you is…acting surprised.

Rachel Maddow is openly gay. So is Suze Orman. But to me, this elcits a big SO WHAT?

It is awful the people do not feel they can comfortably be who they are. I posted a few weeks ago about a friend who got engaged at the White House when attending the Obama 2012 LGBT Pride Reception http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1353980-my-friend-got-engaged-white-house.html</a> (the thread had over 450 views but only ONE post :frowning: ) The proposal went viral. Her fiance happens to be trans. Now they are the subject of backlash and target of haters, including the awful Westboro church nuts who called my friend and her fiance “filthy birds”. This is what we should be outraged about. There is no excuse for not letting people be comfortable being and sharing who and what they are.

I think the bigger news story is the fact that this is news.

Would it be a headline if Hannity came out as straight? No. We need to get to a point in this country where LGBT is just as “normal” as straight. Then again, that won’t happen as long as there are inequal treatments.

Kind of reminds me of the interview with Joss Whedon “Why do you write strong female characters?” “Because you’re still asking me that question.”

I think it’s what he wrote that is the news. It wasn’t a secret that he hid, but his reasoning now for making it more well known is interesting.

Just like when Mo Rocca came out, I wondered “was he ever actually in?”

Hope Anderson finds the perfect man and lives happily ever after. I like him a lot.

Must be a slow news day. People need to live and let live.

I saw an interesting quote, I think on Tumblr, the other day: “20-30 years from now, children will be learning in History about when the LGBT community had to fight for their rights. And they will be disgusted that they had to fight for what was rightfully theirs and what everyone else already had.”

Shocking! I thought Mr. Cooper had come out of the closet years ago.

We will know we have made progress when nobody feels the need to announce their sexuality to anyone. It’s really nobodies business and yet, gay and lesbians are expected to “come out” eventually.

My Grandma would have been surprised to hear Liberace was gay, everyone else not so much.
I don’t think he needed to announce it, but eventually we will only know if we know the person personally or when we see their wedding pictures in the paper.

I hope so, Emeralkity.

Since I pay far more attention to Fox news than the other ones I’ll check to see if they particularly care. I don’t see why they would any more than any other news outlet.
