So i just got my housing info and was wondering where is Bartlet North located at. Is it a big dorm or small dorm and are the rooms big or relatively small.

Bartlet is in Flagstaff, right next to the library. It’s on the big side, with decently sized rooms.

I’m in B. Bailey House and in a single. How are the room sizes? How many people are in the dorm? How far is it from the main campus area? Thanks. I’m assuming Uroogla will answer.

Bertha Bailey is on Abbot campus, and it’s one of the farthest dorms from campus, beyond Alumni but before Flagg, Clement, and Draper. At a leisurely pace, it’s maybe 8 minutes from GW. The rooms aren’t the biggest ones on campus, but you shouldn’t be too cramped. If I remember correctly, there are something like 15 people in that dorm. I may be stopping by that dorm at work today, so if I do, I’ll try to give more details.

What about Double Brick?

Not that it much matters, but Bertha Bailey is beyond Clement and Alumni, but before Flagg and Morton. Draper’s a bit to the back, off Main Street. The Alumni girls used to argue with the Draper boys who had to walk farther. America House is also somewhere around there. If I remember correctly, it’s level with Bertha Bailey on the other side of the street.

Double Brick is right across from the Chapel on the other side of Main Street. I think it has 16 girls including prefects. I’ve also heard good things about your house counselors, assuming they haven’t changed from last year.

What’s Nathan Hale like?

So then Double Brick is in a good location? And has anyone actually seen the rooms in Double Brick?

Alumni by a little bit, I believe. It’s a moot point, though, because Flagg, Bertha Bailey, Morton, America and Carriage House are all further. America is actually on Main Street; Morton is roughly opposite Flagg and Bertha Bailey.

One house counselors for Double Brick is Mrs. Strong (theatre and dance). I still don’t know who the other one is, though. Double Brick is in a good location, in my opinion, especially if you’re taking music. Rooms are spacious, pretty much all the same. They’re replacing the furniture this summer, too. The rooms feel open, if nothing else.

Nathan Hale is a big dorm in Pine Knoll…about half the students live in 3-room doubles (the bedrooms are tight and cramped, but the 3rd room is a nice size), the other half in (somewhat small) singles. It’s probably the furthest away of the Knoll dorms, but not really far from campus like many of the other clusters. If I had to venture a guess, I’d say there are 40 students in the dorm. 8 on each of the two sides of the first floor, 8 on each of the two sides on the second floor, and 8 in the middle on the second floor. A spacious common room like all of the Pine Knoll dorms, washers in the basement, and it has a Kitchenette.

Thanks Uroogla! And I am taking music so that should be good :).

This might be hard to say if you haven’t lived there, but is there still the same camaraderie and “bond” in the dorm even though it’s separated in eights? In other words, will you only really be friends with the people in your group of eight?

I can’t say - I was a day student. You’ll probably make friends with them first, but then you should be able to move out and make friends elsewhere in the dorm and on campus. There is a decent amount of physical separation, though, especially on the lower floor. You all share a common room, though, which helps.

I never lived in PKN (the cluster whose dorms are probably more divided into pieces than any other on campus), but from what I’ve heard Uroogla’s right on. Most people make friends with whoever’s closest at first, but then venture out to meet people in other sections of the dorm. This is true for most freshmen dorms. In upperclass dorms, people tend to make friends with the other new students of the same grade first (regardless of location in dorm), and then venture out to meet other students in the dorm.

According to the Andover website, the other Double Brick house counselor is Rev Gardner. She was a comp for Alumni last year and was really nice.

Last year, Ms. Bouyea was one of the Double Brick house counselors (and she’s still listed as such on the website). She’s very nice, according to my daughter. She’s the tennis coach and an admissions officer in charge of the 9th grade.

[Phillips Academy - House Counselors](http://www.andover.edu/StudentLife/ResidentialDayStudentLife/Pages/HouseCounselors.aspx)

I’m assuming this is the updated copy, since many dorms are listed with different house counselors than last year and there are a number of names I don’t recognize (presumably belonging to new teachers and teaching fellows).

Sorry to post on both threads(the Andover one and this one) but I just wanted to say that any info on the Alumni Dormitory will be appreciated! I’m a new lower and I’m really excited about all this. Anyone know anything about Ms. Milkowski?

Ms. Bouyea is still listed on the door, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Alumni Hall - “keep walking” was the motto of the girls there in '07-'08. It’s deep in Abbot campus, meaning you have a long walk to everything, especially sports and English. It’s a bit on the small side, though there were 2 prefects (or are they proctors?). The closets aren’t incredibly large, though they’ll probably suffice unless you plan on hiding in there to avoid lights out. Don’t know the counselor, though.

Sounds good to me…I enjoy walking. I’ve been going to BS for 2 years and I had a 30-40 min walk to classes.

Thanks so for the info! Hmmm, I thought lights out was only for juniors though. Since the closets are small I guess I’ll have to find some other way to avoid that little inconvenience.

Alumni House was a junior dorm for years, but this year it’s going to be new lowers. That’s where the confusion came in. You were right, lights out is just for freshmen.

How did you have a 30 minute walk to classes? Were you a day student?
