andover's big essay. !?!

Yes, 9th grade.

Thank you for the advice. I came upon this whole admission process not knowing what to except. For March 10th, I am preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. ;]

well, your essay is quite serious…i picked the same topic too and the tone was more of a ‘fun to read’ one since my choices were quite peculiar.

Technically, it is a very well-crafted essay, and your choices do reflect your love for the school. You are consistent throughout the essay with the topic on selflessness and non-sibi. One thing I would comment on (that has been already mentioned) is starting each paragraph with the names of your choices; I would’ve had some sort of transition from each person to another, linking one with the other. The conclusion was excellent; once again, I emphasize your technical proficiency. In a sentence: This essay clearly shows the read why you want to attend Phillips Andover Academy. I believe you should expect good results on March 10th.

Thank you very much. =]

Ehhh, preparing for the worst, hoping for the best!

The Andover essay was by far my favourite to write. Hardest to pick what to put in, though.

I couldn’t agree with you more prettyckitty

did everyone pick the " three people " essay choice ?
i tried that last year , and for me it wasn’t a good prompt and i came up with a mediocre essay .
so i wrote a " most important lesson " essay instead .
just asking =]

Yes, as you can see I did the three people one…

I actually now wish that I did the most important lesson one because I have great ideas on that one.

Oh well…

I did the important lesson one, and then I used it for “topic of your choice” for Exeter!! ;)

it was actually “the most interesting lesson” and I wrote about that one

Hmmm… the funny thing is that at Andover, absolutely no one likes George Bush, which always turns out to be incredibly unfortunate when speakers come and say things like, “Let’s hear it for George Bush’s old school!” and are met with silence. Personally, that makes me laugh. I picked Anne Boleyn (under-appreciated as a human being and reformer of England), Leonardo da Vinci (who only ever did EVERYTHING), and Elizabeth Cady Stanton (who should have HER face on a silver dollar).

I must say… nice job on the essay, you certainly seemed like you cared about getting in much more than I did. All that research… I didn’t even recall those names. Someone’s going to be smiling reading that essay, and you’ll probably be smiling when you get that humongous package in the mail!

ChaosTheory - nice self-analysis. it’s nice to know that some people see themselves as articulate lawyers, visionaries, and imaginative theoretical physicists.

Hey Audrey  I’m going to TIP this summer! Social Psych, Term II. What are you doing? PM me.

Haha, that’s funny. I heard at the Andover-Exeter game, Exeter shouted “George Bush” to Andover and the whole side went silent. I think I heard that off this board, though.

What did you get on the SAT, olivia?

TIP looks pretty cool. Maybe I’ll apply next summer.

Her highest was 600 in Writing. I got the same score.

This is one of their essays?!?!?
This is one of the local school’s essay that im applying to
