Hello Longhorns!

I’ll be living in Andrews next year, and all I know about it I learned from this page: <a href=“UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining”>UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining;

So I have some questions:

1) Do Andrews rooms come with bookcases?
2) Is it easy to bunk the beds? Would you recommend doing so?
3) How high off the ground are the beds? Or would most under-bed storage fit there easily?
3) How are the bathrooms?
4) Is there a kitchen with a stove and oven – even a small one – nearby?
5) What’s some general advice or information about living in Andrews?
6) What are the best/worst things about it?

Any feedback you could give me would be welcome. Thank you!

1) Do Andrews rooms come with bookcases?
yes; a small bookcase.
2) Is it easy to bunk the beds? Would you recommend doing so?
Not super easy. It is nice to have the beds to sit on.
3) How high off the ground are the beds? Or would most under-bed storage fit there easily?
Get bed risers from Target or Bed Bath and Beyond and you can easily fit nice, tall, under bed storage bins under the beds
3) How are the bathrooms?
Perfectly fine community baths. Cleaner (and better smelling) than many. One room with toilets and a sink. One room with private shower stalls with two curtains (one for the shower area, one for the changing area)
4) Is there a kitchen with a stove and oven – even a small one – nearby?
Yes, in the basement of the honors quad. You can make brownies.
5) What’s some general advice or information about living in Andrews?
My daughter loved Andrews freshman year. You will especially enjoy the quad (go to ice cream parties!), the sun decks (in February), and the nearby Littlefield patio cafe.
6) What are the best/worst things about it?
The location is convenient and the sinks in the room are nice - but I will let a student answer this one.

You are lucky. Andrews is a great freshman-year dorm.

Hi, I’m also going to be staying in Andrews this year. I was looking at Google Maps and saw there was a fairly large square-shaped paved area immediately south of the dorm (between Andrews and the Geography building).

Is this where I am supposed to park and unload on my check-in day or am I supposed to park somewhere else on the adjacent streets?

There are very limited loading spots where you are describing. Those are the only places you will be allowed to unload during check-in. The street parking is all permitted. When you check in, you can get a 1 hour loading zone permit. It is kind of wild and crazy at check in, so patience is a must!

Thank you, MidwestMom2Kids_ and QueenofEverythin! I have a few more questions.

7) Do Andrews dorms come with two closets?
8) MidwestMom2Kids_ said that beds are difficult to bunk, but assuming you do bunk them, do you need to bring your own hardware (tools, etc.)? Also, is there enough space to sit up on the top bunk? (I know that space might depend on how you bunk the beds.)

All you need to bunk/unbunk the beds are two regular strength people. The top bunk just sits on the bottom bunk with four pins stuck in the legs to keep them anchored together. They just fit into place, no tools, no screws, etc. It’s not even that heavy if you remember to take the mattress off.

I have a single w/private bath in the quad this year. Has anyone ever done this/had experience with it? Also, do all the quad rooms come with an ac/heating unit? thanks!
