Andrews Hall Questions

Hi,

Son got E Andrews Hall room # starting at 1. Is that in the ground floor? How many floors does Andrews Hall have?
From google’s map, I saw many rooms facing Bowen street and some of them directly facing the garbage bins on the parking lot. Has it ever caused complains before?

Thank you.

I don’t believe you can actually see the garbage bins, even from rooms facing directly that way. Maybe from a few.

They often make dorm floorplans available on the admitted students Facebook group, etc. Alternatively, your student should be able to log in here and see floor plans:

That link looks weird but I think it should work.

^son said he can’t find any floor plan with room placements, that’s why I am here asking questions. Yes he has joined the FB page and seems like many info just surfaced the past few hrs.
I’ll ask my son to see if he tried that link yet.
Thanks a lot!

I can tell you that Andrews is considered a “plush” dorm. Room sizes are good, and you have a sink in (or right outside) your room. Pembroke’s also a great place to live your freshman year because it’s almost entirely populated by freshmen.

“First” floor Andrews actually is more on the second floor, It’s first floor entrance level from the “terrace” but one floor up from the back entrance on Bowen street (where you will want to head for moving in) and from the door in Miller that everyone uses. It’s a great dorm. (sinks as stated above, lots of kitchens that can be used for study retreat too, fairly good sized rooms, tall ceilings, elevator for move in (although hopefully you will leave that to ppl on higher floors) well insulated, individual room thermostats). Does have some problems with cell phone reception dead spots. And if he cares (some guys don’t) would recommend a rug as the floors are dreary tile or very old carpet.

^To move in from Bowen is a great tip. Than you so much!

^I second moving in from the Bowen Street entrance. I lived there my freshman year and it was very easy…no stairs and the elevator right around the corner from the entrance. Tell your son he’s lucked out. Andrews is a great dorm. Large rooms, good sunlight, individual room thermostats, sinks in rooms, very quiet and comfortable study area on the main floor, super clean for a college dorm, and it’s literally a stone’s throw from the V-Dub. The only downside that I can remember was the laundry room. There weren’t very many machines, but it is possible to wash and dry clothes in the dorms adjacent to Andrews - you can access them from inside of Andrews - they have a few more machines than Andrews so that came in handy on weekends when the laundry room was busy.

^ Not this year though. Both Metcalf and Miller are under renovation.

^so, Andrews will probably be quite noisy during daytime, right?

^That’s probably a safe assumption, but that depends on where your son’s room is located relative to the other two dorms.
