I find it all incredibly sad. The poor baby may or may not inherit-as others have stated, first it must be deemed if Anna Nicole has a right to inherit.
The sadness comes from thinking about this poor woman who just lost a son a few months ago and has left behind a baby daughter.
I find it sad. I am sorry for Anna Nicole and her baby daughter and all the family left behind.
I hope there wil lbe some resolution to it all. And, I fervently hope that someone -whomever is deemd her legal father, will seek to keep that baby girl safe from harm.

They showed some old interviews on Larry King, and she’s sitting there saying, “Gee, trouble just has a way of finding me”. Nothing like not taking responsibility for things.

Not to make light of her death but I don’t get all the media attention. Last night I turned on the tv to get the NEWS, you know the snowfall in upstate NY, the latest helicopter shot down in Iraq - NEWS. Instead every channel that was doing news including the Spanish channels and CNN, was focused on Anna Nicole Smith. Not just her death, but her life - her “career”. The baby has grandparents and two potential fathers that are all interested in her welfare so she will be taken care of. She was a minor actress and model with a history of drugs, weight problems and sounds like a good heart, it’s sad that she died, but why all the fuss?

The same reason that Scott Peterson, Natalie Holloway, Elizabeth Smart, Brittney’s baby without a carseat, the breakup of celebrity starts, etc. are bigger news than the day’s casualties in Iraq, the federal budget, the presidential race, etc.

People love to dish, they love to gossip, and they love to worry about celebrities or fret about personal safety. It’s why magazines like People are big sellers. Most people don’t really want “hard” news. They follow stories like ANS because they are of human interest, apparently.

I was watching tv while on the treadmill this morning, and Anna Nicole is top story on every single network. I wasn’t in the least surprised.

Right–allmusic.
This seeks “news” included the fight between Ryan O’Neill and his son, the astro-nut (great Jon Dailey line- “Lust in Space”) and other such news of national importance. I think the massive 8’ snowfalls in upstae NY, Iraq helicopter downings and Israeli skirmishes are getting relegated to the second section of the newspapers… behind the Oscars, the Grammy’s and Anna Nicole.

I think my H would rather look at pretty pictures of Anna Nicole, than snow coming down in Oswego. Soap Operas are just more interesting than watching the winter weather if you do not live in the snow belt. Lets face it, the story has all the elements of a lively story, DNA testing, fighting over a baby, 2 unexpected sudden deaths, fighting over more money than many could spend in a lifetime, other legal entanglements. It more complex than looking at a wall of snow, so it sells advertising space. Sex, drug, money stories just sell.

Awww, really nemom? Those huge snowdrifts hanging menacingly off the roofs look almost as exciting as those 2 mountains that were falling out of Anna Nicole’s dresses…

Awww, I thought you guys might be thinking something like that. Boy, her 89 y/o husband must have died a happy man.

I get that her young, somewhat controversial life and death is a little bit interesting but isn’t it more like entertainment tonight stuff then major news? The news people are all talking about her life as if she had done something, interviewing people from her past, etc. I’m all for human interest stories to a degree but the interest in Anna Nicole Smith is just weird. oh, no- now I’m showing interest!

Slow news day. She took all the attention away from the Astro-nut. ;)

To chime in with the rest of you, I also find her death (and seemingly her life in general) incredibly sad and I feel for that baby girl. But here’s another thought I had: what if the DNA test (that has already taken WAY too long) reveals that neither man is that baby’s father? Stranger things have happened. Oh, also I just read where the judge in the DNA case has ordered that her body be preserved until sometime later this month when some matter with the DNA test and/or results will take place.

gymeni, Yes, I just heard that judge denied the motion of a DNA test on Anna within 24 hours. I don’t understand how the delay is in the best interest of the child. Why didn’t the child have representation in the court today? Afterall, she has a high stake in the matter, which is finding out who her biological father really is, and as Gymeni points out, it could be neither of these men.

kathiep, it is Entertainment Tonight stuff, but with cable channels this is what becomes news. Think about how long we watched the Halloway, or Peterson story. That was news worthy for a day of two, but not for months and months, and now into years. Those stories still are put on cable channels fairly regularly.

Not that I know much about Anna Nicole Smith, but I do pity her, she seemed tormented, truly like a lost soul, when they show her most recent interviews, her mannerisms are startling and frightening at the same time. She is one something big time and you know what my theory is:

Her “partner” Howard is involved with possibly murder. How bizarre is it that both she and her son only about 6 months ago or so died more or less the same way? Granted they are not “normal everyday people” but he has nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain including his daughter and all the money she stands to get. I know this may sound far fetched but I suspect something very surprising and shocking may come out of this. May she rest in peace and may she now find the peace, and acceptance that she so craved.

Kathiep, my thoughts exactly. I mean I was pretty baffled when I saw every single major news network putting this story before the horrific news in Iraq, and things just more significant than a wanna be starlet dying. I mean its quite sad but we are not talking necessarily someone who had accomplished a great deal in her lifetime. I was just kind of surprised at the extreme amounts of attention given to this story.

This is similar to when Princess Diana died or when all the OJ stuff first happened. Not really important directly to any regular person’s life, but it’s all sensational and everybody wants to watch.
FWIW, I never saw any of her shows or interviews, but I have seen pictures of her every time I open up the internet (how could you NOT??!!).
You would be surprised how many people follow celebrity gossip. Most of them probably don’t post on CC though.

I think the media assumes that everyone wants to watch. I don’t want to watch. I didn’t follow Anna Nicole Smith when she was alive. I have no interest in her.

When Princess Diana was alive, I also didn’t follow her.

I don’t know who Lindsey Lohman is except that there were some stories that she doesn’t wear underwear.

I really liked the days when CNN had important news, not sensationalism.

I agree NSM. I don’t want to watch either. But I think it was sad that she lost her son…just like I would feel sorry for ANY parents who lost their son. And I felt bad for Pincess Di’s sons. Like I would feel bad for any other young boys who lost their young mother.
It’s just that non-celebrity’s stories don’t make national news because nobody knows who they are.
I could never for the life of me understand why that little girl model’s death was in the news for YEARS! I mean, yes it was a terrible tragedy that a child died, but don’t children die every day? I really don’t mean to sound calloused or anything, but sometimes I don’t get it.

NSM: You must not have daughters. I have never given a hoot about Anna Nicole Smith or Princess Di, but as far as I’m concerned Lindsey Lohan is still amortizing the goodwill she created with her double-role performance as twins in the remake of The Parent Trap, which I have seen Lord knows how many times. Really, one of the best performances by a juvenile actress ever. I worry about her, and hope she puts her underwear back on and starts acting again.

have a look at this.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070209/ap_on_en_tv/anna_nicole_smith_131

“Important news” is boring and repetitive. Troubles in the Middle East (there’s a shocker), the poor are still poor, some company cheats people, the Dems and Reps don’t like each other much. The economy is bad or not good as it could be for everyone depending on POV. After a few decades of this I don’t much care about “the news” either. Very little of it has ever had a real impact on my day to day life.

No drugs found in Anna Nicole-now that is a shocker.
