Annual Thankful Thread

I miss my folks, Sax, but I am kind of thankful like you for knowing them, for having that opportunity!

I’m thankful for my family…for my parents and MIL who still enjoy fairly good health, live independently and are of sound mind…for my sweetheart who is my rock…for my children and for the fact that all are employed and seem to be happy…thankful that we have had no house disasters this year and so aren’t remodeling anything…thankful to have a job I love working with great people…thankful that we live in a time and a place where great medical care is available which makes the future less frightening.
Wow, that made me feel good. Puts my bad things into perspective, and there are plenty of bad things, but that’s another thread for another day.

Here is a quote from Charles Eisenstein -
“I am thankful for what I am and have.
My thanksgiving is perpetual…
O how I laugh when I think of vague indefinite riches,
No run on bank can drain it
for my wealth is not possession but enjoyment.”

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

^ I’m hitting the “like” button for that, UWhuskyDad.

Thankful that my dear Mama crossed over with not much suffering 2 years ago.

I am thankful for my two guinea pigs, my doggy, and my bird. I am thankful they are all healthy and for all the joy they bring to my life. They are not just like family - they are family.

I’m thankful that my three kids get to see six of their cousins for a few days. Three of them, they don’t even remember, it’s been so long. They’re getting along great.

I am thankful:
For life and health
For friends and family
That my kids are doing well
For a roof over our head and food on the table
For a wonderful church family
For my beautiful community
That my son saw his cousins and had such fun today.
For the beautiful colors of nature.

I am thankful for my children doing things they should be doing, and being successful at them.

I am thankful for my excellent health.

I am thankful we were able to downsize to a house that we absolutely love.

I am thankful for good – no, great friends – who take care of us when we need it and are eager to share with us whatever they can.

I am thankful that my mom’s house didn’t burn down yesterday when a giant grease fire engulfed the entire oven while BF, sister, and I were home alone with the turkey. I am thankful that fire extinguishers are good for so long even though people are so bad about having them serviced and replaced when they are supposed to. I am thankful we just so happened to be walking to the oven and saw the fire as it erupted, because my parents took the smoke alarm out of their lower floor because it was “annoying” and we could have been trapped upstairs by the time we knew something was amiss. I am thankful that it went out quickly by itself, as it was spreading unbelievably fast and I’m not sure if we would have been able to stop it. I am thankful that my boyfriend shut the dish towel in the oven door just minutes before, prompting me to move it away from the oven, or it would have caught fire and caused it to spread even more.

I am thankful that God was watching out for me yesterday, as he does every day, because that incident could have gone very differently. We had a great thanksgiving about two hours later when I finally came out of shock and my asthma attack soothed. And thank god, my very senior grandparents were late for the first time in their lives and everything was okay again by the time they got there.

-yikes! A T giving to remember!

They used a pan that was too small for the turkey and all the juices went pouring out the bottom and ignited. Flaming grease was pouring out the bottom and pooling under the oven. I was horrified! But, now I just can’t believe how blessed I am because that could have been a catastrophe and it all turned out okay-- even the turkey was delicious. The cabinets are a little scorched and when the fire went out there was grease EVERYWHERE, but actually it doesn’t even look like anything was really damaged, nobody was hurt, and the fire went out by itself very quickly. I am hoping my parents will have the oven checked out even though nothing appears to be wrong with it.

I’m thankful that I did not have a Thanksgiving as dramatic as Emaheevul07 (or [Halle Berry](Gabriel Aubry arrested after Thanksgiving brawl with Halle Berry's fiance - nj.com)). I’m glad everything–including the turkey!–turned out well, because now it will make a GREAT family story!

I’m thankful for the love of my family and the beauty of the world–and that I am getting better at appreciating both.

I am thankful that my children have taught me how to become a more skillful parent with each passing year. By the time I am a great grandmother, I may start to get the hang of this thing!

I am thankful for my family and friends and good health. Nothing else is more important. It is nice, too, that we are all employed. :)

I am thankful that someone donated their organs to allow my bil to receive new lungs.

I am thankful for my permanent job that I got this summer in the field I’ve wanted to work in since high school. I am also thankful for my wonderful family and friends. And my new (well, 2011) car that I got to replace the car (a 98) I had been driving since I got my license.

I am not thankful for all the crap going on with my grad school thesis, but it will be done this spring, and I already have my job, so it’s nothing to stress about now, just a hoop to jump through (and it’s basically done, just making changes to satisfy misguided professors, heh).

I’m thankful for what I have.

VAMom, my BIL was also the recipient of a organ transplant right before thanksgiving last year. It is truly the best gift and such a miracle! Good luck to him on his recovery.

My BIL and family will be coming here for Christmas, he’s been too sick to come for years so we are so excited. And he can take his youngest to Disney World, something my BIL could not do either.

I’m thankful for no drama. And I’m thankful that my D who couldn’t make it to our house, has a nice boyfriend and family who make her feel welcome.

Deb922-so glad to hear your BIL is doing so well. My BIL hasn’t been able to travel for some time (even with oxygen he didn’t think he could get enough air when flying). We are hoping once he has recovered he will be able to do some traveling!
