I’m looking at SW’s current air fare sale. What’s to stop me from booking two one-way tickets instead of a round-trip ticket?

nothing… but with Southwest, it doesn’t matter. They don’t work like other airlines where a RT ticket is often cheaper than 2 one-way tickets. In fact, I dont’ think you can buy a true RT ticket.

Agreed. You can, but why would you want to?

With SW and some other airlines you really buy each segment (departure/return) individually and they’re priced individually which is better IMO than dealing with the jacked-up rates for one-way purchases using the traditional method some airlines still use. On SW if you want to buy just 3 SAN->JFK tickets today and then next week 3 JFK->SAN tickets you can do it and there’s no “one-way penalty” for doing so (although fares could increase in that one week timeframe - or they might decrease).

I saw the sale too and got tickets for my daughter to come home for Thanksgiving. I love Southwest!

^^ Did you notice this fine print on the sale purchase?

I looked at this today, but it does not help as we want to fly to NYC for the week of Thanksgiving to visit our D at school there.

When I did a round-trip ticket, the return flight was $296. Don’t know what to tell you. I booked two $80 one-way tickets!

I got one ticket for the 16th for $80 and the other for the 26th for $139. That’s still lower then what I paid for the same flight for this past week so I’m happy. I am very fortunate for my daughters class schedule - she only has classes Mon-Wed and her college has off the whole week of Thanksgiving.
