The inquiry will examine whether the Milwaukee school violated the Clery Act, a federal law that requires colleges to be transparent in reporting alleged crimes on campus,</p>

<p>All told, five Marquette athletes were accused of sexual misconduct by three female students last year. The university did not report the allegations to Milwaukee police, as required by Wisconsin law.</p>

<p>Two of the women told the Tribune that campus security officers discouraged them from going to police by warning that their accusations would make national headlines.</p>

<p>Two of the women later went to police, but charges were not filed against the athletes. Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm publicly chastised the school’s response to the accusations, saying the cases could not be properly investigated because of the university’s failure to immediately notify police.
