another "can i get in" post, yay...

Okay, I'm 15, first of all.

1600 SAT, and I'd know my SAT II scores if collegeboard would just cooperate a little. I'm pretty sure I'll get 800 writing, 760+ math 2c, and 720+ French. 5 on both AP Calc AB and AP English, 3 on AP French.

GPA 4.4? I don't know exactly, but I know I'm either #1, 2, or 3 out of 80 kids at a small Texas private school. All As, hardest classes possible.

National Merit, at least a Semifinalist (221) - National Honor Society - French National Honor Society (president) - about 12 different subject awards - Quill and Scroll - National Science Merit Award - CYLC

Varsity cheerleader for two years, JV cheerleader for two years - TONS of cheerleading awards. I do the school musical every year. Key Club, Model UN Ambassador, lots of offices in French Club. Editor of the school literary magazine, editor-in-chief of the yearbook. Junior class secretary. Tons of church activities, decent community service. Seventeen magazine's 10 best-dressed girls in America. Cast member of Nogin's "Girls vs. Boys: Puerto Rico".

The best recs that it's possible to have, and my essays should definitely be my strongest point. English major.

So? Haha, I'm nervous. I've already submitted my online early action application and am just waiting for my guidance counselor to get her act together.

your chances are aboud as good as the other 3000 EA applicants...sorry, but I don't want to get your hopes up. Obviously they'll seriously consider you. It's just never a sure thing.

holy crap. dude.....if she just has average chances, then i shouldnt even try man. i think i have ok chances, but she's got way more than me. I'd say go for it, jia, you were on freaking tv and youre in seventeen magazine.....1600....4.4 gpa....god damn girl..........maybe i should rethink my aspirations if shes just an average candidate

i think shes unbelievable. is she doesnt get then the system is ridiculous. good luck jia--i'll be an english major too. how did you get into seventeen magazine??

Random. The TV and magazine things were totally random - I got a mass email from asking readers to send in pictures, and I sent in a picture of myself in what I wore to school, and they called me asking me to be in the issue. And the TV thing - there was a booth in the mall and I went in and made a tape.

Yale's just so ridiculously competitive that I'm definitely not going to get any of my hopes up...

yeah well thats a good plan of action, just so u don't get disappointed. But honestly, you're gonna have much higher chances than the rest of us, trust me. But yeah, if you want, don't expect much, but realistically, if any of us have a decent chance, youve got a very good chance

You're fifteen? Are you technically a senior? Wow...I had a friend who went to college early (but he regretted it later)...I hope it works out for you.

hm not bad.. but there's no BAM. sigh. most yale students were accepted because of the BAM.

BAM?? what's that?

or like just a huge hook or astounding thing?

I am actually a senior. I've been moved up two grades forever; I was in first grade at age four. It just looks like a big deal on paper... which I guess could work out well for me in this case.

the BAM is either something totally unique or something totally amazing. or both. it could be successfully starting your own company or winning the Intel STS. i don't know. something that would really catch the admissions officer's eye.
