I posted before that CMU is sending my DD (a junior) brochures and letters that indicate they think she’s a senior. Today we got a letter from another of her top choice schools and they said, “Enjoy your senior year!”

For some reason her safeties and the places she’s totally not interested in all know she’s a junior. The places she really may want to attend think she’s a senior. What’s up with this?

She took the PSATs last year, as a sophomore (and will take them again as a junior), but don’t lots of kids do that? Could that be what’s confusing these colleges?

Oh well. I assume if she does well on her PSATs this time around, that will generate a new list for the colleges and they’ll just have her on two lists…

wackymother,
Before I finished reading your post I thought, “Did the D take the PSAT’s as a soph?” That’s probably what’s triggering the “early” mail. You will see it all again next year.

wackymother,
Be careful what you wish for! You may find yourself with piles and piles of college mail, only a little of which your D is actually interested in. Yet, you will find it difficult to throw out as the pile grows and grows…

We got piles of stuff last year after the PSATs, too. I actually had no problem tossing the stuff from colleges she won’t be going to, but it was interesting to see some of the smaller colleges there are in this country! The marketing materials make them all look soooo good.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a person who became a Dean at their undergrad university still gets solicitous packages. “ENROLL NOW!!” “I will do you one better – I’ll run this place for you!”

This thread is FOUR years old. Here is the good news. DD who is a senior in college is no longer getting recruitment mail from the colleges. It DOES end…eventually.

LOL We still occasionally get armed forces recruitment mail for S who is OUT of college. As well as invitations to check out certain vocational schools. “Do you know what you’re doing after HIGH SCHOOL???” :D

I guess some organizations don’t update their mailing lists.
