Another Droid vs. iPhone query

DH switched from a blackberry to an iphone for work and hates it. He also at the same time when from dell laptop to the Macbook pro and an ipad 2. Loves both the macbook and the ipad 2, but regrets the iphone decision.

I upgraded my phone to a Samsung Nexus droid and love it.On T mobile so iphone not an option. D was promised an i phone and data plan for college. She played with my phone for a while and loved it. She opted for this over the iphone. She has worked around syncing the ical with the google calender on the phone and raves about the ease of syncing with her macbook.

I am happy as cost $30 per month to add her unlimited data to our T Mobile account as opposed to setting her up on her own with AT & T or verizon.

One aspect H prefers on my phone is the maps feature- can use the navigation app ( free) to have a GPS that gives voice commands. He has researched an can’t find a free GPS voice navigator with the iphone.

If you look at the current trends they are as follows. Android is expanding rapidly. Apple is expanding some but not as fast as Android. Blackberry is stagnant and will soon start fading. Nokia’s platform is dead. Nokia hired a CEO from Microsoft and foolishly adopted Microsoft’s new mobile operating platform which is a joke. Nokia will soon go bye bye. If you do not wish to have to change phones in the future and want the state of the art, the best selection is Android.

At this point in time the best handsets are made by Samsung in my opinion. The lead for handsets can change quickly but the trend seems to be better and better handsets from Samsung. I am hoping Motorola can take the lead and they are pretty close, but Samsung has everyone beat for the moment.

My husband considered the iphone, but he ended up with Droid2 and loves it. It’s especially nice that son and his Droid are home this summer… he can offer some tips about the best methods, apps, etc.

We’ve been using google maps with success and only miss VZnavigator a little bit. Dropping the the $10/month VZnavigator fee has softened the blow of the new data plan on the bill.

Verizon customers considering a new smartphone should check into the articles that discuss end to unlimited data plan. It may be wise to get your upgrade before July 7th.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/230798/verizon_to_kill_unlimited_data_plans_in_july.html

“Verizon customers can also hang on to their existing unlimited plans for dear life, as the tiered prices only apply to new subscribers. If the rumored pricing is accurate, Verizon’s offering very little incentive for customers to make the switch.”
