Another essay for the chopping block

You guys gave some great criticism of my previous essay. Thank you so much! I tried to smooth things out in this one and wrote a little longer conclusion. However, I ran out of time to finish the conclusion. Time seems to be a big problem for me. Anyone have any tips for speeding up?

This essay is from the second bluebook test’s essay prompt asking if changes that make our lives easier make them better.

We live in a time where the easy way out is at our fingertips. But is the easy road really the way to a happy and successful life? I do not believe so. The easy road often leads us to overlook important weaknesses in our characters. Nevertheless, modern nations continue to strive towards an even easier way of life. What they don’t realize is that while it takes less effort to carry a baby in a sling, that child will never learn to walk.

In the academic world, many students use technology as a crutch. Websites such as spark notes eliminate the creative thought process in literature analysis. Calculators can solve equations with the touch of a button. Google eliminates the need for utilizing the library. By opting for the easy route to academic success, many students are cheating themselves out of important skills. They also fail to learn work ethics that will lead to success in the real world.

My own schoolwork has offered numerous challenges in my life. A World Literature class I am currently taking analyzes numerous texts found nowhere online. Although I at first felt overwhelmed at the though of comprehending works without the guiding hand of sparknotes, I gradually learned to analyze on my own.

A classic children’s book gives an excellent example of the importance of difficulties and struggles in the development of character. The Wizard of Oz follows the journey of the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow to the Emerald City. All desire the magical wizard to bestow the traits they lack. But they discover that the journey’s difficulties have granted the tin Man a heart, Lion courage, and the Scarecrow brains.

If our world focused a little less on developing ways to make life easier, we too would discover that it is life’s little challenges that lead to true happiness.

Thank you!
