Classy lasts/works longer and better than snazzy, IMO.

To classy! (mafool raises glass)

(should you be so inclined, I’d love to see a link to the dress)

worknprogress – Sounds delightful. Clothes are like men, sometimes, you may have a list but then you fall in love with someone or something that isn’t anything like what you thought.

And shorter will have a longer usable life than longer…cruises, fancy business functions, charity do’s…all sorts of things where you need v. dressy but not completely formal.

I have to attend a wedding this Friday. Weather is predicted to be cold and wet. Most of my warm clothing, especially dresses or skirts are black. I have see guests wearing black at other weddings, but I have never done so, on purpose. Any opinions?

Wnp, I’m glad to hear that you found a dress! Classic is perfect - as the other posters said, you will get a few extra miles out of this dress. I’d love to see the wedding pictures!

cbreeze, a nice shawl or a pashmina can add pizzaz as well as warmth to most basic outfits. It can spruice up a black dress, too, but I would try to avoid wearing black to a spring wedding (unless, of course, black is a part of the official wedding color scheme).

^I was about to say the opposite. My sources tell me that black is very in regardless of season, and that dressing to match the official wedding colors is the epitome of gauche.

BB, I’ll dig a bit deeper in my closet to get some spring outfits out, though the weather sure isn’t spring-like.

cbreeze – There’s black like widow’s weeds and then there’s flirty, fun, sexy black. I think the second one would work for a wedding. Depends on the fabric (floaty vs. heavy) and the details (Ruffles? Lace?) Bright shoes and bag and I echo BB’s suggestion of a shawl…esp. as spring weather can be iffy…in a bright color can ‘lift’ a black dress.

Ema, what I said only applies to black outfits, because black is a very atypical wedding color. No one would expect the guests to match bright pink or orange bridesmaids’ dresses

Novelisto has some great points. A sexy LBD with a fine lace-y wrap and bright shoes/accessories is OK, but a long skirt and a shirt made of heavy fabric is a no-no, IMO. I’m sure the couple is sick of the weather, too, and would appreciate a splash of spring color. :)

I love bright yellow with black. A LBD with a yellow shawl or sweater always looks great. I also think if the wedding is in the evening in changes things. But I really shouldn’t chime in - I am obviously genetically predisposed to choosing black. It is an affliction.

Glad you approve! I’m wearing a yellow purse with a black dress today and wondered if I look like a bumblebee.

Missypie - but you would be an adorable bumblebee!

Here’s a link to the dress I purchased. The model must be 5’8" I am 5’6" and wear a size four and it is a little longer on me. Not at all what I had in mind, but I loved how it fit. The wedding is in the evening so I am happy with black and white. And I certainly have a ton of accessories to choose from!!! Now I just have to keep walking and pumping iron until the big day!

^^^^Pretty!

That is very pretty…looks like something I have, half black and half white. I am always cold, so I usually wear a shrug or a shawl with it.

I may be asking you all for advice in a couple of months…my D said her BF asked her to go and have her ring sized.

YAAAAY! We love weddings on CC.

cbreeze - yay!!!

wnp - love that dress!

If my D gets married…no hurry, thank you…I wanna wear this:
