Another new refrigerator with door in door

I bought a new refrigerator last summer. Did a ton of research and caught the best price possible (including a rebate/price matching et al). Looked at French door only since I disliked the side by side one that came with the house and our old house had a top freezer. Looking at price, size, reliability, noise et al I narrowed it down to two brands. Did go with water/ice in the door since Florida ground water is 72 (ie cold from tap) compared to up north 55. Also made sure there were no freezer wire baskets to lose things from.

Both LG and Samsung became my ones to choose from since both have freezer handles that lit up from the door (as opposed to fixed)- better leverage, ease of opening. For us not having the third drawer- which is temp controlled (3 settings typically) refrigerator space made more sense as we don’t need to remember which door to open. For those with snacks et al it would be great. I liked the Samsung ice maker better than LG even though the less tan 30 cubic ft models have some too narrow door spaces. Regarding door-in-door Samsung seemed much better than LG (we don’t need that feature so saved money by not getting it- only two of us). The LG handle to choose front or main refrigerator to open seemed awkward to me.

You need to “kick some tires”- ie go to some stores and open/close doors. Also read online info and the library’s copy of Consumer Reports- July and January (or is it Feb?) kitchen issues. Last year they redid the sizing and energy efficiency numbers to be more realistic so the same refrigerator from 2013 will have a larger labeled capacity and better energy ratings than the exact same one for 2014.
