Another one, at Yale.

Sigh.

I think I’m going to start a thread since these are occurring frequently. Lets see, we have …

  1. Starbucks
  2. Airbnb
  3. Yale 4 . LA Fitness
  4. Nordstrom Rack
  5. Univ Florida commencement
  1. Colorado State

I don’t know the whole story but I may not conclude this is as a racial incident. If I see someone(any color) who’s not supposed to be napping (stretched out) in a common room I may report the incident too. To me if it’s not an acceptable behavior in that room, something should be done.

We should not see “race” in every incident.

I’m sure it varies from school to school, but in my day it wasn’t unusual to see fellow students sleeping all over the place. The appropriate response back then was to draw a mustache on their face or tie their shoelaces together, not to call the cops. My, how times have changed!

@cbreeze Its racial because her complaint to the cops was someone was there who wasn’t supposed to be there. She also called the cops on the students friend who got lost in the building in a prior incident. Now if you can show me where she has called the cops on white students who appeared lost or napping , then I will take back what I said but I’m sure she has not.

I’m sick and tired of folks, mostly white women, calling the cops. Most times the cops are doing their job, but many times you have an overzealous cop, and someone gets hurt.

Even when you have nice officers, it chips away at your self esteem to always be considered suspicious.

It’s pretty common for students to nap around campus. Lot’s of colleges have joking guides to the best places to nap. I was a student at two campuses and worked at two more. All of them had people napping in lounges and libraries, especially during finals.

“I don’t know the whole story” – is this year’s standard refrain. Because calling the police on someone napping in the lounge is just normal behavior in colleges, now and forever. Right? Didn’t we all call the police when someone fell asleep in the library, or the Quad? Or the million other places tired college students fall asleep? A few of mine have fallen asleep in class–maybe I should have called the cops on them, too. Well, wait. They were white. Nevermind.

I would apologize for the sarcasm, but come on–who in the history of college ever called the police because someone took a nap in the lounge.

So @cbreeze when you see a student-aged person sleeping in the common room of your dorm you call the cops??? Is it against dorm rules to fall asleep studying?

SMH.

It depends on the purpose of the room. You don’t know she was sleeping in a lounge. There are all sorts of common room and if it is a meeting room and someone is stretched out to render the room useless for others, yes I would wake her up. From the article, the student was waken up and I don’t know how the cops were involved.

"I don’t know the whole story but I may not conclude this is as a racial incident. If I see someone(any color) who’s not supposed to be napping (stretched out) in a common room I may report the incident too. To me if it’s not an acceptable behavior in that room, something should be done.

Oh come on! Or, as my Grandfather would say, “Oh go on with you” People shouldn’t be napping in common areas, or asking to use the bathroom in Starbucks without buying something, or carrying around a toy gun … and on and on. The way people turn themselves into pretzels in order to deny the existence of racism is really quite astounding.

I love google.
“Graduate School students and their family members can study, meet informally, socialize, nap, enjoy coffee and tea, or bring their own food and drinks, in the McDougal Common Room & Lounge during operating hours. After hours access is not permitted.”

Hey, I didn’t deny racism.
I do think this incident is blown out of proportion by the sleepee. She wanted to video everything and hoping the cops would come so she could post it on facebook.
BTW, I am not white and I know when it is racism or not. Not every incident is racism…just saying.

I am still at a school. I find students sleeping in the strangest places.

You know what normal, well-adjusted, not-racist people do? Let them be and go about their lives. Maybe gently wake them up if it looks like something could get stolen.

Of course you do.

@MadcityParent thank you! So as I thought, as usual, she used the cop as her racism valet, because heaven forbid that a black student be allowed to occupy that space. I swear this country is going backwards!

@cbreeze I’m sure she was HOPING. SMH. Seriously? She let the cops see her open her dorm room with her key and that wasn’t enough for them .

The woman who called this time has called 911 before…for another black woman in the dorm, supposedly. But she should be humored, no matter the cost to others…

I’d film it too, if I were her.

I can see that this forum doesn’t tolerate another viewpoint.
Go on bashing !!!
