As mentioned in the “Blackberry Storm: A Nightmare?” thread, I have my “New Every 2” contract renewal with Verizon coming up.

At first I wanted a Storm, but due to the bad reviews and the extra expenses, I’ve decided to wait until they work all the kinks out.

After shopping around, I’ve sort of “fallen in love” with the new(ish) LG Voyager. I’ve only ever had LG phones since I’ve been with Verizon and loved them, but I’ve read in reviews that the touchscreen on the Voyager isn’t too great (among with a few other complaints).

Has anyone had any experiences with the Voyager? I’m going to a Verizon store tomorrow to “test drive” one, but I’d love some CC experiences.

My S (college freshman) has a Voyager which he loves. I will note that he dropped it, cracked the hinge and we’ve already had to replace it. Thankfully we got the insurance. He has had no problems with the touchscreen and gets a lot of use from the phone. My D has a Glyde which she prefers to the Voyager- it is smaller and “fits” in her hands better, if that makes sense! Both have been good phones for us, I think it will just depend on your preference.

S2 had a bad experience with the Glyde. The touchscreen features stopped working correctly after only about four months of use. When he took it back to the Verizon store, he was told that phone had a lot of problems and was being redesigned. That particular phone was purchased in June '08. Unfortunately we had not purchased insurance.
They may have a new edition of the Glyde out now.

He just got a new phone for Christmas. He considered the Voyager but was a little skittish about another touchscreen after his bad Glyde experience. He ended up going with the Blackberry Curve (not touchscreen). It was $99 after rebate. He really likes that there are no hinges/sliders to flip and break and the keyboard made for easy texting. The round cursor button at the top clicks just like a computer mouse. He also got a case/cover to protect it. It is very thin and not a hindrance to carrying in the pocket of jeans. So far he loves his Backberry Curve.
They make an even smaller Backberry (the one I saw as pink) $20 after rebate that S2 said lots of his female friends have. He has friends with the Voyager that like their phone too.

Thank you both!
My car is at the dealership getting serviced before I drive 400 miles back to school next weekend, but as soon as I get it back I’m off to the Verizon store to try out different phones. :)

I agree with Packmom–My D absolutely hated her Glyde and was so turned off by touchscreens. She too purchased the Blackberry Curve and is delighted. She is tough on her phones and I’ve heard that the Curve is very durable. We’ll wait and see. I am actually loving my new EV2 but I’m still years behind in my technological intellect. :)

I also wanted a Storm. It was my “new every two” time and I thought the Storm looked like a great phone–until I was told that Verizon charges an additional $30 a month for the services it provides on that phone! No thanks.

I bought a Voyager two weeks ago and so far I love it! I’m still getting used to it, and haven’t figured out all the bells and whistles yet, but I haven’t had any problems, either.
