Another question about NPC?

Do the NPC’s want weighted or unweighted GPA?

Weighted GPA provided by your high school is typically meaningless outside of the high school. Using it in other situations (unless otherwise specified that a weighted GPA is used; in these cases, there may be a specific weighting method that may differ from that of your high school) may result in overestimating one’s chances for admission or scholarships.

Which means they ask for UW GPA.

We use a 100 scale and his GPA is 94.35484. What does that translate to on a 4.0 scale?

His weighted GPA is a 96.5857

I would say that’s a 3.77, and his weighted GPA looks like a 3.86.

According to the chart Erin’s Dad posted he falls into the 4.0 with his unweighted gpa of 94.35. So how did you get 3.77? I am so confused ha ha

@Skippy00 has he had ALL A grades? That would be a 4.0 on a 4 point grading scale. If he got even one grade lower than A…his unweighted GPA would be less than 4.0.

Well…unless you are counting A plus grades…many colleges don’t use plus or minus at all.

His guidance counselor said his gpa unweighted of a 94.35 translates to a 4.0. He had an 87 freshman year in a Pre AP class but she said that doesn’t matter. We don’t use letter grades we use number grades.

Some high schools…and some colleges…don’t use freshman year grades.

He got one 87 grade. So his total average is NOT 100% which would be a 4.0. BUT it’s likely very close.

Its so confusing to me…when we did his raise me account that says his GPA is a 3.9

3.9 sounds right with all A grades…we’re those 100 scores? And one slightly lower one,

his grades are 95, 95, 93, 99, 100, 97, 92, 99, 95, 98, 98, 90, 94, 95, 98, 87, 93, 95, 95

this is including freshman year

Note that you need to convert to the GPA in 4 0 scale from the letter grade of EACH class. You cannot just convert from the average percentage grade into one GPA. It seems he has a B+, 4A-, and the rest are A.

So what GPA does that give him?

If you have 14 grades that are A (presumably 4.0), four that are A- (3.7 in our school system) and one that is B+ (3.3) you get 3.9 exactly.

Maybe some colleges won’t count certain grades like non-academic classes, or freshman classes, but at least 3.9 seems a reasonable assumption.

Thank you
